Hydrogen gas will be an essential energy carrier for global systems in the future. However, non-renewable sources account 96% of production. Food wastes have high hydrogen generation potential, which can positively influence production and reduce greenhouse (GHG) emissions. The study evaluates potential food waste hydrogen-based power through biogas steam reforming its environmental economic impact major Ghanaian cities. results highlight that annual Kumasi had highest share 40.73 kt, followed by Accra with 31.62 while least was Tamale (3.41 kt). Valorization of food waste (FW) is instrumental for reducing the environmental and economic burden FW transitioning to a circular economy. The valorization process has widely been studied produce various end-use products summarize them; however, their economic, environmental, social aspects are limited. This study synthesizes some methods used management produces value-added applications, also discusses technological advances aspects. Globally, 1.3 billion tonnes edible lost or wasted each year, during which about 3.3 greenhouse gas emitted. (−347 2969 kg CO2 equiv/tonne FW) (−100 $138/tonne impacts depend on multiple parameters chains systems. Although enormous efforts underway reduce as well valorize unavoidable loss, it seems transdisciplinary approach/initiative would be essential minimize abate FW. A joint effort from stakeholders key efficient effective improve its sustainability. However, any initiative in should consider broader sustainability check avoid risks investment environment.
