Abstract
Background
Obesity
is
associated

chronic

inflammation,

Summary
It
is
now
widely
understood
that
visceral
adipose
tissue
(VAT)
a
highly
active
and
dynamic
organ,
with
many
functions
beyond
lipid
accumulation
storage.
In
this
review,
we
discuss
the
immunological
role
of
tissue,
underpinned
by
presence
fat‐associated
lymphoid
clusters
(FALCs).
FALC's
distinctive
structure
stromal
cell
composition
support
very
different
immune
mix
to
found
in
classical
secondary
organs,
which
underlies
their
unique
filtration,
surveillance,
innate‐like
responses,
adaptive
immunity
within
serous
cavities.
FALCs
are
important
B
hubs
providing
B1
cell‐mediated
frontline
protection
against
infection
supporting
B2
cell‐adaptative
responses.
Beyond
these
beneficial
responses
orchestrated
FALCs,
cells
VAT
play
homeostatic
role.
Dysregulation
during
obesity
aging
leads
chronic
pathological
“metabolic
inflammation”,
contributes
development
cardiometabolic
diseases.
