Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the major causes mortality worldwide, with inflammation being an important factor in its onset and development. This review summarizes specific mechanisms cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate synthase (cGAS)-stimulator interferon genes (STING) pathway mediating inflammatory responses. Furthermore, it comprehensively presents related research progress subsequent involvement this pathogenesis early-stage DM, diabetic gastroenteropathy, cardiomyopathy, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, other complications.
