Although polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based surfactants are widely used in various industries due to their wide range of hydrophile-lipophile balance (HLB) values, possible by-product, 1,4-dioxane, has been listed as a reasonably anticipated human carcinogen, which may limit applications fields closely related the body. Polyglycerol fatty acid esters (PGFEs), class based on polyglycerol (another polyether), also have HLB values that can be adjust by varying degree polymerization polyglycerol, length carbon chain, or esterification, but do not risks caused 1,4-dioxane. In addition, all raw materials (glycerol and acids) required for preparation PGFEs obtained via hydrolysis renewable vegetable oils. Therefore, PGFEs, new eco-friendly biodegradable non-ionic surfactants, proposed potential green alternatives PEG-based surfactants. This review summarizes properties specifically including HLB, surface properties, phase behaviors, stabilizing effect foams emulsions, stability, highlights food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals observed last decade.

With the in-depth knowledge of pathological and physiological characteristics intestinal barrier-portal vein/intestinal lymphatic vessels-systemic circulation axis, oral targeted drug delivery is frequently being renewed. many advantages, such as high safety, convenient administration, good patient compliance, researchers have begun to explore from intravenous injections administration. Over past few decades, fields materials science nanomedicine produced various platforms that hold great potential in overcoming multiple barriers associated with delivery. However, transport particles into systemic extremely difficult due immune rejection biochemical invasion intestine, which limits absorption entry bloodstream. The feasibility drugs sites outside gastrointestinal tract (GIT) unknown. This article reviews biological absorption, vivo fate mechanisms carriers, theoretical basis for impact carrier structural evolution on administration achieve this goal. Finally, different nano-delivery systems can enhance bioavailability therapeutics highlights their applications efficient creation anticancer nanomedicines.
