Biofilms, complex microbial communities, adept at forming on diverse surfaces within environments, such as membrane technologies, ship hulls, medical devices, and clinical infections, pose persistent challenges. While various biofilm prevention methods, including antimicrobial coatings, physical barriers, bacteriophage utilization, have been devised for engineered systems, their efficacy fluctuates based application type species. Consequently, there remains a pressing need the development of highly targeted efficient control strategies tailored to specific applications need. In our investigation, we disrupt cell-to-cell communication in Pseudomonas aeruginosa through anti-quorum sensing (anti-QS) furanone C-30 molecules. The incorporation these molecules onto electrospun yielded substantial reductions 69% petri dish assays 58% mixed cellulose ester (MCE) membranes dead-end nanofiltration system, showcasing potent anti-biofouling impact. Notably, functionalization MCE with anti-QS resulted remarkable 16.7% improvement filtration output. These findings underscore potential this approach mitigate formation, offering technical foundation advancing ongoing pursuit effective application-specific measures.

The widespread use of antibiotics has led to the emergence a large number drug-resistant bacteria, accelerating dissemination and spread antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in environment. Bacterial biofilms, serving as reservoirs ARGs, pose potential risks environmental health that should not be ignored. Studies on presence transfer ARGs biofilms have been conducted both domestically internationally. This article summarises research progress various environments analyses mechanisms factors influencing microplastics, activated sludge, pipe wall with particular focus phage-mediated ARG transfer. We also discuss current gaps this field provide references for future biofilm management risk control ARGs.

Quorum quenching (QQ) by bacterial strains has been demonstrated to be a cost-efficient approach for biofouling control in an anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR). In this study, facultative QQ consortium was screened and encapsulated beads (QQ beads) mitigate AnMBR high-strength wastewater treatment. The operation time of fouling QQ-AnMBR 3.5 times longer than that control-AnMBR. mitigation attributed the effect on reduction quorum sensing signals extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) cake layer. However, retarded lower EPS led higher level irreversible resistance. addition enriched genus Thauera Methanothrix, while reduced abundance Methanosarcina. Moreover, relative QQ-related genes layer increased from 0.014% Control-AnMBR 0.022% QQ-AnMBR. These findings indicate significant promise implementing strategy
