Mitochondria are highly dynamic cellular organelles that perform crucial functions such as respiration, energy production, metabolism, and cell fate decisions. Mitochondrial damage dysfunction critically lead to the pathogenesis of various diseases including cancer, diabetes, neurodegenerative cardiovascular disorders. in response environmental contaminant exposure its association with has also been reported. Recently, persistent pollutants, micro- nanoplastics, have become growing global threats potential health risks. In this review, we discuss impact nanoplastics on mitochondria review current knowledge field.

Plastics have been proven to be a potential threat the ecosystem, and their toxicity mechanism is still uncertain. In ecological environment, plastics can degraded into microplastics (MPs) nanoplastics (NPs), which contaminated ingested through food chain. MPs NPs are associated with severe intestinal injury, microbiota disorder, neurotoxicity, but it unclear whether MPs- NPs-induced dysbiosis will affect brain gut-brain axis. current study, we determined effects of exposure polystyrene (PS)-MPs PS-NPs on anxiety-like behaviors explored underlying mechanisms. This study behavioral 30-day 60-day PS-MPs using open field test (OFT) elevated plus maze (EPM) test. Behavioral tests showed treatment remarkedly induced compared control group. Using 16 S rRNA gene sequencing untargeted metabolomics analyses, observed that reduced beneficial gut expression level, such as Lachnoclostridium Lactobacillus, increased conditionally pathogenic bacteria expressions Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Desulfovibrio. addition, reduce mucus secretion increase permeability. The results serum metabonomics suggested metabolic pathways, ABC transporter aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, biosynthesis amino acids, bile were enriched after treatment. Besides, neurotransmitter metabolites also altered by PS-MPs. It noteworthy correlation analysis disorder was related disorder. regulation may promising strategy for PS-MPs- PS-NPs-induced anxiety

Micro/nano-plastics (MNPs) are considered a heterogeneous class of environmental contaminants that cause multiple toxic effects on biological species. As the commonly used mammalian models to study MNPs with regard their effects, mouse and rat making great contribution disciplines toxicology medical health. However, have not been systematically summarized. Therefore, systematic review meta-analysis mouse/rat were conducted. A total seven main categories established in this review, 24 subcategories further divided according specific physiological significance endpoint or classification system, which covered all selected pieces literature. 1,762 endpoints found, 52.78% them significantly affected. This fact indicates there relative factors, including size, polymer type, concentration, exposure time different sexes could affect endpoints. These can be classified into various such as dose-response relationships between MNP concentration nervous growth, reproduction, digestive tract histopathology, inflammatory cytokine level, among others. negatively affected blood glucose metabolism, lipid reproductive function mice. The male mice is more sensitive MNPs. findings also provide insights directions for exploring evidence mechanisms human It clear research required pathological at molecular level long-term tissue accumulation.
