Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge. var. mongholicus (Bge.) P. K. Hsiao (MO) and Bug. (ME) are two primary sources of the herb, also known as “Huangqi” in China, which is widely applied to treat hypertension, glomerulonephritis, ischemic heart disease, diabetes mellitus.
