Background: Previous research has shown that addictions to digital media can have negative impact on psychosocial health. Although Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) received most scholarly recognition, the potential consequences of Social Media (SMD) also been found. However, few studies assessed symptoms these two in same way, making comparisons difficult. The present study aims fill this gap by investigating differences and similarities regarding how common are, sex differences, suitability symptoms, their association with difficulties. Method: A total 688 university students (63.2% women, Mean age = 25.98) completed a questionnaire measuring IGD SMD, as well difficulties (i.e., psychosomatic low self-concept, social problems). Results: Results showed 1.2% men 0.9% women met symptom criteria for (non-significant difference), whereas 3.2% 2.8% SMD difference). Dimensional analyses indicated had higher scores compared opposite was found SMD. Background There has been a surge in interest examining internet gaming disorder (IGD) and its associations with motivation. Three broad components of motivation have proposed: achievement, immersion, social. Achievement-oriented players are motivated by gaining in-game rewards, immersion-oriented the experience immersion virtual world, social-oriented need to socialize other through gaming. Objective This study aimed (1) quantitatively synthesize growing body literature systematically examine discrepancies magnitude between various IGD (2) moderating role cultural dimension on association escapism IGD. Methods We conducted systematic search multiple databases 2002 2020. Studies were included if they quantitative data, used measures assessing both IGD, (3) contained sufficient information for effect size calculation. Results The findings revealed stronger achievement (r=0.32) than (r=0.22) or social (r=0.20), but strongest such was found be (r=0.40), subcomponent Our cross-cultural comparison further showed studies individualistic (vs collectivistic) regions. Abstract Background and aims: Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) depression have negative consequences on individuals' mental health, but their relationships are complex. This three-wave longitudinal study aimed to detect the metacognitive mechanisms underlying association between IGD tendency based self-regulatory executive function model. Methods: A total of 1,243 Chinese undergraduate student gamers (57% female, M = 19.77, SD 1.29) were recruited at baseline survey (Wave 1 [W1]), with 622 574 them taking part in two follow-up surveys 2 [W2] 6 Wave 3 [W3] 12 months later), respectively. Results: The path model demonstrated, after controlling for autoregressive effect each variable, that consistently predicted not vice versa, while positive metacognitions about online gaming (MOG) significantly both tendency. Moreover, statistically significant mediation paths: (i) MOG [W1] → [W3]; (ii) identified. Discussion conclusions: These findings extend understanding associations among depression, tendency, MOG, highlighting how has a stronger prospective than also reveal mutual effects Integrated programmes emotional regulation training Metacognitive Therapy recommended treatment.

Objectives The longitudinal associations between DSM-5 Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) and suicide-related ideation behaviors have not been explored. In this study, we therefore seek to examine the association baseline IGD incident suicide ideation, plans, attempts. Methods This is a prospective cohort study of 2586 Mexican college students followed up from September 2018 June 2022. We estimated hazards ratios modeling incidence attempts by fitting proportional Cox models with person-time scaled in years. Results Among 2140 without at baseline, there were 467 cases 3987.6 person-years; rates 179 per 1000 person-years among 114 those IGD. Incidence for plans 67 39 non-IGD students, 15 10 1000, respectively After controlling age, sex, mood, anxiety, substance use disorders, was associated an 83% increased risk ideation. Although rate estimates higher IGD, results statistically significant. Conclusions helps raise awareness least suicidal people experiencing Clinicians treating patients may encounter complaints over time, even reports behavior that should be disregarded. Identifying these treating/referring them underlying suicidality form part treatment.
