This is the first study in last 15 years to analyze per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) breast milk collected from mothers (n = 50) United States, our findings indicate that both legacy current-use PFAS now contaminate milk, exposing nursing infants. Breast was analyzed for 39 PFAS, including 9 short-chain 30 long-chain compounds, 16 of these were detected 4-100% samples. The ∑PFAS concentration ranged 52.0 1850 pg/mL with a median 121 pg/mL. Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) perfluorooctanoic (PFOA) most abundant samples (medians 30.4 13.9 pg/mL, respectively). Two perfluoro-n-hexanoic (PFHxA, C6) perfluoro-n-heptanoic (PFHpA, C7), concentrations 9.69 6.10 respectively. Analysis available data around world over period 1996-2019 showed while levels phased-out PFOS PFOA have been declining halving times 8.1 17 years, respectively, detection frequencies increasing doubling time 4.1 years.

There is information indicating other sources pathways of in residential environments, but few studies report relationships between these indoor media human biomonitoring measurements. This study adapts existing systematic review tools methodologies synthesize evidence for PFAS from environment including consumer products, household articles, cleaning personal care air dust. Studies were identified using innovative machine learning approaches pathway-specific search strings reduce time needed literature screening. The included evaluated modified specifically studies. was conducted following a previously published protocol (DeLuca et al., 2021) that describes the methodology used detail. Only 7 measured targeted subset 8 chemicals concordant (primarily house dust) participant serum. Data extracted calculate intake rates estimate percentage occupant serum concentrations could be pathways. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) constitute a heterogeneous group of synthetic compounds widely used in industrial applications. The estimation PFAS half-life (t1/2) is essential to quantify their persistence, toxicity mechanism action humans. purpose this review summarize the evidence on half-lives humans from available literature, investigate limitations uncertainties characterizing estimation. search was conducted PubMed, Scopus, Embase databases up July 03, 2023 aimed at identifying all papers that estimated human populations. We excluded studies temporal trends or providing estimates based solely renal clearance. As persistent ongoing exposures can influence estimation, we decided include only were after main source exposure had ceased. A random-effects meta-analysis reported perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonic (PFOS) perfluorohexanesulfonic (PFHxS) Risk bias evaluated using OHAT tool. total 13 articles included review, with 5 exposed general populations 8 workers; mean ranged 1.48 5.1 years for PFOA, 3.4 5.7 PFOS, 2.84 8.5 PFHxS. High heterogeneity among observed; potential reasons variability investigated populations, discrepancies considering exposures, isomeric compositions, accounting background exposure, time since stopped methods Despite efforts made better understand toxicokinetics, further are needed identify important characteristics these chemicals. Reproductive system diseases pose prominent threats to human physical and mental well-being. Besides being influenced by genetic material regulation changes in lifestyle, the occurrence of these is closely connected exposure harmful substances environment. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), characterized hormone-like effects, have a wide range influences on reproductive system. EDCs are ubiquitous natural environment present industrial everyday products. Currently, thousands been reported exhibit endocrine this number likely increase as testing for potential has not consistently required, obtaining data limited, partly due long latency many diseases. The ability avoid EDCs, especially those artificially synthesized origin, increasingly challenging. While can be divided into persistent non-persistent depending their degree degradation, recent uptick research studies area, we chosen focus pertaining detrimental effects health several that widely encountered daily life over past six years, specifically bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates (PAEs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), parabens, pesticides, heavy metals, so on. By focusing impact hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, which leads development diseases, review aims provide new insights molecular mechanisms EDCs’ damage encourage further in-depth clarify potentially EDC through various other mechanisms.
