This review presents a compilation of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) that have been detected in waters, sediments biota lakes throughout the world by various researchers, over 26-year time period (1996–2021). Numerous studies published literature reported 286 70 (PCPs) were present 101 50 PCPs sediments, 63 19 world. Among lake 194 had concentrations 5 ng/L, 173 only one continent, whereas several (e.g. caffeine, carbamazepine sulfamethoxazole) waters almost every continent (6/7). 56 41 continent. PPCPs found 260 lakes, located within 44 countries, majority them Asian, European North American lakes. Lakes with high pharmaceutical affected either controlled or uncontrolled wastewater originated from types sources. Based on this study, concern is Asian where PPCP pollution should be strictly order to prevent possible serious health threats humans living organisms.

The ubiquitous presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in environments has aroused global concerns; however, minimal information is available regarding their multimedia distribution, bioaccumulation, trophic transfer marine environments. Herein, we analyzed 77 representative PPCPs samples surface bottom seawater, sediments, benthic biota from the Bohai Sea. were pervasively detected biota, with antioxidants being most abundant PPCPs. PPCP concentrations positively correlated between water a decreasing trend coast to central oceans. Higher sediment found Yellow River estuary, variations physicochemical properties produced different distribution pattern seawater. log Dow, but not Kow, showed linear positive relationship bioaccumulation magnification factors parabolic biota-sediment accumulation factors. trophodynamics miconazole acetophenone are reported for first time. This study provides novel insights into biomagnification potential suggests that Dow better indicator magnification.
