The unmatched levels of water contamination by emerging contaminants (ECs), such as endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) and pharmaceuticals, has become a relevant environmental problem due to their considerable ecotoxicity associated health issues. Among the EDCs, parabens are group preservative widely used on daily basis in cosmetic, personal care products, food products pharmaceuticals. Parabens can cause variety adverse effects, particularly system. They frequently detected matrices (up 170.9 μg/L surface waters), with critical presence persistence aquatic systems 36,000 h half-life time). Despite advances wastewater treatment technologies, design existing plants is not suited remove these ECs, generating wastes containing high concentrations persistent or chemically unstable demand amounts energy for operation. Moreover, there lack published standards that provide guidelines treating parabens, highlighting need innovative approaches. Microalgae bioremediation starting evolve scientifically feasible removal namely laboratorial pilot scale studies achieving efficiencies close 100%. However, large microalgae-based wastewaters other ECs faces challenges process optimization. This study reviews physicochemical properties regulation persistence. It further provides rigorous analysis comparison systems, reinforcing research.

The extensive applications of parabens in foods, drugs, and cosmetics cause inevitable exposure to humans. Revealing the developmental toxicity is utmost importance regarding their safety evaluation. In this study, effects four commonly used parabens, including methyl paraben (20 ∼ 200 μM), ethyl 100 propyl (5 20 butyl (BuP, 2 10 were investigated on early development zebrafish embryos larvae. underlying mechanisms explored from aspect disturbance thyroid endocrine system using vivo, vitro, silico assays. Paraben caused deleterious zebrafish, with BuP displaying highest among all, resulting concentration-related mortality, decreased hatching rate, reduced body length, lowered heart incidence malformation. Further investigation showed that hormone levels disturbed transcriptional expressions target genes hypothalamic–pituitary–thyroid axis. Molecular docking analysis combined vitro GH3 cell proliferation assay testified all test exhibited receptor agonistic activities. findings confirmed disruption effects, providing substantial evidence control paraben-based preservatives.

Since ancient times, breastfeeding has been the fundamental way of nurturing newborn. The benefits breast milk are widely known, as it is a source essential nutrients and provides immunological protection, well developmental benefits, among others. However, when not possible, infant formula most appropriate alternative. Its composition meets nutritional requirements infant, its quality subject to strict control by authorities. Nonetheless, presence different pollutants detected in both matrices. Thus, aim present review make comparison between findings terms contaminants last decade, order choose convenient option depending on environmental conditions. For that, emerging including metals, chemical compounds derived from heat treatment, pharmaceutical drugs, mycotoxins, pesticides, packaging materials, other were described. While concerning found metals such materials outstanding. In conclusion, convenience using feeding diet based or either depends maternal circumstances. important take into account compared formula, possibility combination with fulfilled only intake milk. Therefore, more attention should be paid analyzing these conditions each case able proper decision, will vary newborn environment.
