Polyphenols are natural compounds with enhanced antioxidant properties. They present in relatively high concentrations fruit/vegetable by-products. Therefore, there is a need for the development of efficient and cost-effective methods separation purification these valuable compounds. Traditional extraction organic solvents needs to be switched novel that more efficient, reduced times low consumption solvents. Aiming at developing sustainable processes phenolic compounds, we used three model namely resveratrol, quercetin, gallic acid, investigate ionic liquid-based aqueous biphasic systems (IL-ABSs) formed by cholinium-based IL combination polypropylene glycol molecular mass 400 g/mol (PPG400). The ABS composition two-phase region was selected according previously determined phase diagram. Extraction studies indicated preferential partition resveratrol quercetin toward hydrophobic PPG-rich mainly dominated its nature strong salting-out effect ILs. On other hand, due considerably hydrophilic nature, acid preferentially migrates phase. achieved results from grape stem extract demonstrated efficiencies cholinium dihydrogen phosphate (~99% PPG 78% phase), considerable selectivity, demonstrating promising outcomes potential applications.

The effects of commercial enzymes (pectinases, cellulases, beta-1-3-glucanases, and pectin lyases) on the recovery anthocyanins polyphenols from blackcurrant press cake were studied considering two solid:solvent ratios (1:10 1:4 w/v). β-glucanase enabled highest total phenolic content - 1142 mg/100 g, extraction was similar using all (∼400 g). use cellulases pectinases enhanced antioxidants (DPPH 1080 g; CUPRAC 3697 freeze-dried extracts presented antioxidant potential (CUPRAC, DPPH), which associated with their biological in different systems: antiviral activity against both non-enveloped viruses (enterovirus coxsackievirus A-9) enveloped coronaviruses (HCoV-OC43), cytotoxicity towards cancer cells (A549 HCT8). No cytotoxic normal human lung fibroblast (IMR90) observed, no anti-inflammatory detected lipopolysaccharides-treated murine immortalised microglial cells.

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have been regarded as a substitute extraction solvent for conventional organic reagents due to their low toxicity and unique solubility. In this study, fifteen choline chloride-based DESs were prepared successfully integrated with microwave-assisted (MAE) technique extracting Hibiscus manihot L. flowers natural antioxidants. The selected DES exhibited superior performance than those by water 60% ethanol. After statistical optimization single-factor experiments, Taguchi orthogonal design response surface methodology, the maximal yields of ten antioxidants reached 0.880, 0.328, 0.176, 0.243, 5.143, 4.098, 4.852, 0.171, 0.509 0.303 mg/g, which was 1.42–1.94 folds media methods. addition, enriched recovered satisfactory recovery yield 88.45%–92.02%, regenerative could be recycled at least four times. Overall, study established green, safe, high-efficiency sustainable alternative efficiently bioactive ingredients from plant matrices.

Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) has become a potent contender in the fight against microbial infections, especially context of rising antibiotic resistance crisis. Recently, there been significant interest polyphenolic natural products as potential photosensitizers (PSs) aPDT, given their unique chemical structures and inherent antimicrobial properties. Polyphenolic products, abundant readily obtainable from sources, are generally regarded safe highly compatible with human body. This comprehensive review focuses on latest developments future implications using polyphenols PSs aPDT. Paramount compounds, including curcumin, hypericin, quercetin, hypocrellin, celastrol, riboflavin, resveratrol, gallic acid, aloe emodin, elaborated upon respect to structural characteristics, absorption properties, effects. Furthermore, aPDT mechanism, specifically its targeted action cells biofilms, is also discussed. demonstrate immense representing promising alternate approach counteract antibiotic-resistant bacteria biofilm-related infections.

Cancer is one of the leading causes death worldwide. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are currently providing basis for cancer therapies, although both associated with significant side effects. Thus, prevention through dietary modifications has been receiving growing interest. The potential selected flavonoids in reducing carcinogen-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) DNA damage activation nuclear factor erythroid 2 p45 (NF-E2)-related (Nrf2)/antioxidant response element (ARE) pathway was studied vitro. Dose-dependent effects pre-incubated on pro-carcinogen 4-[(acetoxymethyl)nitrosamino]-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNKAc)-induced ROS human bronchial epithelial cells were comparison to non-flavonoids. most effective assessed Nrf2/ARE pathway. Genistein, procyanidin B2 (PCB2), quercetin significantly suppressed NNKAc-induced damage. Quercetin upregulated phosphorylated protein kinase B/Akt. PCB2 Nrf2 Akt phosphorylation. Genistein phospho-Nrf2 translocation catalase activity. In summary, genistein reduced Nrf2. Further studies required understand role regulation relation carcinogenesis.
