To mitigate the presence of tetracyclines in water, it is essential to implement proper wastewater treatment processes that can effectively remove these compounds. In this work we develop a polymeric filtration membrane functionalized with nanocrystals metallic organic framework, designated by HKUST-1. The was evaluated for remotion oxytetracycline (OTC), tetracycline (TC), and chlortetracycline (CTC) water samples. fabricated using polysulfone (PSU), polyethyleneglycol (PEG), MOF (HKUST-1), N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) through nonsolvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method. presents best antibiotic rejection characteristics prepared 15% (w/w) PSU, 3% PEG, 1% HKUST-1, 81% (NMP). This exhibited pure flux up 76.2 L.m-2.h-1, approximately 40 times more than one achieved pristine membranes. Once determined composition, physical-chemical characterization done. A high rate obtained OTC, TC, CTC, around 91%, 99% respectively. pH solutions has strong influence on rejection. results suggest intermolecular forces such as π-π type interactions hydrogen bonds exist between neutral molecules (pH>pKa1 pKa2. Furthermore, FTIR spectra demonstrate formation Cu-tetracycline complex another adsorption mechanism. Finally, interaction mixture removal performance evaluated. study revealed superior performance, even over extended periods time, despite having lower initial concentration mixture. innovative represents new generation highly efficient filter systems specifically designed purification purposes.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest threats to environment and health. AMR rapidly invalidates conventional antibiotics, antimicrobial nanomaterials have been increasingly explored as alternatives. Interestingly, several show AMR-independent effects without detectable new therefore suggested prevent evolution. In contrast, some are found trigger evolution AMR. Given these seemingly conflicting findings, a timely discussion two faces urgently needed. This review systematically compares killing mechanisms structure-activity relationships antibiotics nanomaterials. We then focus on nano-microbe interactions elucidate impacts molecular initiating events Finally, we provide an outlook future propose design principles for prevention
