The increasing levels and frequencies at which active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) are being detected in the environment of significant concern, especially considering potential adverse effects they may have on nontarget species such as fish. With many pharmaceuticals lacking environmental risk assessments, there is a need to better define understand risks that APIs their biotransformation products pose fish, while still minimizing use experimental animals. There both extrinsic (environment- drug-related) intrinsic (fish-related) factors make fish potentially vulnerable human drugs, but not necessarily captured nonfish tests. This critical review explores these factors, particularly focusing distinctive physiological processes underlie drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion toxicity (ADMET). Focal points include impact life stage absorption (A) via multiple routes; implications fish's unique blood pH plasma composition distribution (D) molecules throughout body; how endothermic nature varied expression activity drug-metabolizing enzymes tissues affect metabolism (M); physiologies relative contribution different excretory organs (E) metabolites. Abstract The contamination of ecosystems by pharmaceuticals and personal care products represents a significant threat to public health, necessitating innovative approaches clean wastewater before release into aquatic environments. Metal and metal oxide nanoparticles are gaining traction in inorganic catalysis photocatalysis, driving the development of eco-friendly methods. This study introduces an cost-effective approach for synthesizing Al2O3 (NPs) using extracts derived from leaves Calligonum comosum L. The primary objective this investigation is to assess photocatalytic efficacy synthesized catalyst addressing organic pollutants. NPs exhibit a spherical morphology with crystalline arrangements, as evidenced by average crystallite size 25.1 nm XRD analysis. band gap energy determined be 2.86 eV. Due to the large amounts of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) currently being consumed released into environment, this study provides a comprehensive analysis pharmaceutical pollution in both raw treated water from full-scale drinking treatment plants nationwide. Our investigation revealed that 30 out 37 PPCPs were present with mean concentrations ranging 0.01-131 ng/L. The sources, surface (ND - 147 ng/L), subsurface 123 ng/L) reservoir sources 135 exhibited higher concentration levels residues compared groundwater 1.89 ng/L). Meanwhile, water, 17 analyzed carbamazepine, clarithromycin, fluconazole, telmisartan, valsartan, cotinine most common (detection frequency > 40 %), having 1.22, 0.12, 3.48, 40.1, 6.36, 3.73 ng/L, respectively. These findings highlight that, while processes are effective, there some persistent compounds prove challenging fully eliminate. Using Monte Carlo simulations, risk assessment indicated these likely have negligible impact on human health, except for antihypertensives. Telmisartan was identified as posing highest ecological (RQ 1), warranting further investigation, monitoring. concludes by prioritizing specific 14 pharmaceuticals, including lamotrigine, cotinine, lidocaine, tramadol, others, future monitoring safeguard health.
