Abstract Berberis vulgaris ( B. or barberry) is a medicinal plant that has been used for various purposes in traditional medicine. Berberine one of the main alkaloids isolated from and other plants. Both berberine have shown anti‐inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulatory effects different experimental models clinical trials. This review aims to summarize current evidence on mechanisms applications modulating inflammation, oxidative stress, immune responses. The literature search was performed using PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar databases until August 2023. results indicated could inhibit production pro‐inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor‐alpha (TNF‐α), interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β), interleukin 6 (IL‐6), interleukin‐17 (IL‐17), enhance expression anti‐inflammatory 10 (IL‐10) transforming growth factor‐β (TGF‐β), cell types tissues. can also scavenge free radicals, increase antioxidant enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), reduce lipid peroxidation DNA damage. reported exert beneficial several inflammatory, oxidative, immune‐related diseases, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular neurodegenerative autoimmune allergic infections. However, more studies are needed elucidate optimal doses, safety profiles, potential interactions with drugs natural compounds.

Background: Doxorubicin (DOX) is a very powerful chemotherapy drug. However, its severe toxicity and potential for resistance development limit application. Withania somnifera L. Dunal (WIT) has therapeutic capacities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer activities. This study investigates the preventative benefits of standardized WIT extract against DOX-induced renal damage in vivo. We also investigate synergistic effects combining DOX to improve efficacy breast cancer cells (MCF7-ADR). Methods: employed an animal model where rats were administered 300 mg/kg/day orally duration 14 days. Rats received injections at dose 5 mg/kg, total 15 mg, on 6th, 8th, 10th Results: Present results revealed that reduced increase levels blood urea creatinine activity kidney injury molecule-1. tissue damage, oxidative stress, pro-inflammatory markers. alleviated nuclear factor erythroid 2-related 2, heme oxygenase-1, sirtuin 1 tissues. modulated factor-κB decreased apoptotic indicators. Furthermore, improves DOX's capacity kill drug-resistant MCF7-ADR by arresting cell cycle promoting apoptosis. Chemical analysis root 34 distinct compounds, alkaloids, withanolides, flavanones, fatty acids. Conclusions: These constituents synergistically contribute WIT's anti-apoptotic properties. In addition, they confirm ability reduce systemic while improving treatment efficacy.

Nephrotoxicity (NT) is a renal-specific situation caused by different toxins and drugs like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs). NSAIDs diclofenac (DCF) lead to glomerular dysfunction. Pentoxifylline (PTX) berberine (BER) have antioxidant properties. Thus, the objective of present study was investigate ameliorative effect PTX, BER their combination against DCF-mediated acute NT. Induction NT done via DCF injection (150 mg/kg I.P, for 6 days) in rats. PTX 200 mg/kg, were administrated days prior concurrently with additional days. Acute evaluated biochemically histopathologically measuring blood urea (BU), serum creatinine (SCr), kidney injury molecule-1(KIM-1), integrin (ITG), vitronectin (VTN), interleukin (IL)-18, Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), filtration rate (GFR), superoxide dismutase (SOD) glutathione (GSH) malondialdehyde (MDA) scoring histopathological alterations. significantly (P < 0.05) attenuated biochemical changes amelioration BU, SCr, KIM-1, ITG, VTN, IL-18, NGAL, GFR, SOD, GSH, MDA The combined effects produced more significant than either or when used alone DCF-induced In conclusion, BTX found potential renoprotective rats inhibiting inflammatory reactions oxidative stress.

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by hyperglycemia caused resistance to insulin action, inadequate secretion, or excessive glucagon production. Numerous studies have linked diabetes and oxidative stress. People with usually exhibit high stress due persistent chronic hyperglycemia, which impairs the activity antioxidant defense system promotes formation free radicals. Recently, several focused on exploring natural antioxidants improve mellitus.

Renal fibrosis (RF) is the end stage of several chronic kidney diseases. Its series changes include excessive accumulation extracellular matrix, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) renal tubular cells, fibroblast activation, immune cell infiltration, and apoptosis. RF can eventually lead to dysfunction or even failure. A large body evidence suggests that natural products in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have great potential for treating RF. In this article, we first describe recent advances treatment by clarify their mechanisms action. They ameliorate disease phenotype, which includes apoptosis, endoplasmic reticulum stress, EMT, affecting relevant signaling pathways molecular targets, thereby delaying reversing fibrosis. We also present roles nanodrug delivery systems, been explored address drawback low oral bioavailability products. This may provide new ideas using treatment. Finally, insights into clinical prospects herbal

Doxorubicin-mediated kidney impairment is a serious problem in cancer treatment. Accordingly, this work investigated the ability of geraniol to modulate doxorubicin-induced damage using rat model. Rats were randomly assigned four groups: control, doxorubicin (20 mg/kg, intraperitoneal, i.p.), plus 100 mg/kg geraniol, and 200 geraniol. A single injection triggered impairment, as evidenced by altered serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, albumin values; it also caused histological changes architecture. Additionally, enhanced lipid peroxidation while lowering reduced glutathione, catalase activity, expression glutathione peroxidase superoxide dismutase. Interestingly, pre-treatment with rescued alterations antioxidant parameters, enzymatic inflammatory apoptosis-mediating gene proteins. Moreover, prophylactic treatment preserved most characteristics dose-dependent manner. These findings support that could protect against doxorubicin-mediated dysfunction. However, further research needed clarify mechanisms geraniol's protective effects
