Over the last decades, interdisciplinary field of affective sciences has seen proliferation rather than integration theoretical perspectives. This is due to differences in metaphysical and mechanistic assumptions about human phenomena (what they are how work) which, shaped by academic motivations values, have determined constructs operationalizations. Abstract Suggestions about hunger can generate placebo effects on experiences. But, the underlying neurocognitive mechanisms are unknown. Here, we show in 255 women that expectancies, induced by suggestion-based interventions, determine sensations and economic food choices. Functional magnetic resonance imaging a subgroup ( n = 57/255) provides evidence strength of expecting to decrease moderates medial prefrontal cortex activation at time choice attenuates ventromedial (vmPFC) responses value. Dorsolateral linked interference resolution formally mediates hunger. A drift-diffusion model characterizes this effect showing suggestions bias participants’ choices how much they weigh tastiness against healthiness food, which further vmPFC–dlPFC psychophysiological interactions when participants expect decreased Thus, suggestion-induced beliefs shape addressing through cognitive regulation value computation within cortex.

A fundamental property of sensory systems is their ability to detect novel stimuli in the ambient environment. The auditory brain contains neurons that decrease response repetitive sounds but increase firing rate or deviant stimuli; difference between both responses known as stimulus-specific adaptation neuronal mismatch (nMM). Here, we tested effect microiontophoretic applications ACh on cortex (AC) anesthetized rats during an oddball paradigm, including cascade controls. Results indicate modulates nMM, affecting prediction error not repetition suppression, and this manifested predominantly infragranular cortical layers. differential standards, relative deviants (in terms averages variances), was consistent with representational sharpening accompanies precision errors. Active inference under the Free Energy Principle has been proposed as an across-scales compatible framework for understanding and modelling behaviour self-maintenance. Crucially, a collective of active agents can, if they maintain group-level Markov blanket, constitute larger agent with generative model its own. This potential computational scale-free structures speaks to application self-organizing systems across spatiotemporal scales, from cells human collectives. Due difficulty reconstructing that explains emergent agents, there little research on this kind multi-scale inference. Here, we propose data-driven methodology characterising relation between dynamics constituent individual agents. We apply methods cognitive psychiatry, applicable well other types approaches. Finally, point number ways which might be applied better understand relations nested scales.

It is apparent however that, even when completely folded, not all conflicting have been resolved structure remains "locally frustrated". Over last decades it has become clearer that this local frustration just a random accident but plays an essential part inner workings protein molecules. We will review here physical origins concept evidence important for physiology, protein-protein recognition, catalysis allostery. Abstract How individuals process and respond to uncertainty has important implications for cognition mental health. Here we use computational phenotyping examine individualised “uncertainty fingerprints” in relation neurometabolites trait anxiety humans. We introduce a novel categorical state-transition extension of the Hierarchical Gaussian Filter (HGF) capture implicit learning four-choice probabilistic sensorimotor reversal task by tracking beliefs about stimulus transitions. Using 7-Tesla Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, measured baseline neurotransmitter levels primary motor cortex (M1). Model-based results revealed dynamic belief updating response environmental changes. further found region-specific relationships between M1 glutamate+ glutamine prediction errors volatility beliefs, revealing an neural marker High was associated with faster post-reversal responses. By integrating modelling neurochemical assessments, this study provides insights into neurocomputations that drive individual differences processing uncertainty.

Here, we provide speculative model based on predictive processing. We suggest that whereas (above destructive lower bounds like famine or voids) preserves fidelity relationship between prediction errors predictions, distorts this relationship. Furthermore, error minimization is enhanced (as number competing states niche restricted), opposite true also discuss warps fundamental drive for seeking novelty by fueling brain's exploration opposed exploitation) mode.
