Previously, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and selected LAB-inoculated kimchi (SK) have anti-obesity activity in vitro. Herein, of SK was investigated vivo. LAB-uninoculated (NK) were orally administered (70 mg/kg) for 8 weeks to high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice. The body weight, food efficiency rate (FER), composition measured. Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), pyruvic (GPT), adipocytokine, lipid profiles accumulation levels assessed. effects on microbiome changes investigated. In groups, fat, organ weight low GOT GPT significantly decreased (p < 0.05); serum adiponectin leptin increased decreased, respectively. Kimchi obesity-related gene expression 0.05). corrected HFD-induced gut imbalance, notably with more reliable recovery the group. Its vivo confirmed supports using kimchi's health functionalities.

Pectic oligosaccharides have been proposed as a novel prebiotic to prevent obesity and associated with metabolic disorders by regulating gut microbiota, but their various probiotic functions in the depended on complex heterogeneous sugar composition. This study aimed obtain specific oligogalacturonic acids (POAS) from pectin investigate effects of POAS high-fat diet-induced mice. The results showed that improved body weight gain, serum lipids hepatic steatosis obese notably enhanced intestinal barrier function, reduced inflammatory response regulated expression key genes lipid synthesis metabolism. Besides, also promoted short-chain fatty (SCFAs) production. Furthermore, alleviated microbiota dysbiosis caused HFD significantly increasing beneficial such Akkermansia Lactobacillus. Spearman's correlation analysis indicated these bacteria were strongly correlated obesity-related parameters. We conclude is potential treat related complications.

Published: July 18, 2024

The gut microbiota constitutes a complex ecosystem, comprising trillions of microbes that have co-evolved with their host over hundreds millions years. Over the past decade, growing body knowledge has underscored intricate connections among diet, microbiota, and human health. Bioactive polysaccharides (BPs) from natural sources like medicinal plants, sea-weeds, fungi diverse biological functions, including antioxidant, immunoregulatory, metabolic activities. Their effects are closely tied to which metabolizes BPs into health-influencing compounds. Understanding how interact is critical for harnessing potential health benefits. This review provides an overview focusing on its role in diseases obesity, type II diabetes mellitus (T2DM), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), cardiovascular (CVD). It explores basic characteristics several impact microbiota. Given significance health, we summarize functions these BPs, particularly terms im-munoregulatory activities, blood sugar, hypolipidemic effect, providing valuable reference understanding benefits treating diseases. These properties make promising agents preventing comprehensive mechanisms by exert through opens new avenues developing targeted therapies improve
