The quest for candidate probiotics and prebiotics to develop novel synbiotics sustainable profitable fish farming remains a major focus various stakeholders. In this study, we examined the effects of combining two fungal probiotics, Saccharomyces cerevisiae Aspergillus niger with extracts Jerusalem artichoke white button mushroom synbiotic formulation improve growth health status zebrafish (Danio rerio). An initial in vitro study determined most effective combination, which was then tested 60-day vivo nutritional trial using (80 ± 1.0 mg) as model animal. Four experimental diets were prepared: control diet (basal diet), prebiotic 100% selected extract, probiotic 10

Published: Jan. 1, 2024

Bioactives of natural origin have recently gained a lot ground in drug discovery due to their enormous structural diversity, diverse pharmacological activities, safety, and inherent binding capacity with other biomolecules. However, the high demand for new agents prevention therapy inflammation-related chronic disorders has not yet been sufficiently addressed by process. This gap highlights relevance intensifying studies reach sustainable employment huge world biodiversity, such as microorganisms, including fungi biotechnological agro-food medical interest that can be easily cultured/engineered sources bioactives development. Thus, are important bioactive compounds studied applied different purposes, specifically, pharmaceutical area, development antibiotics, immunomodulators, immunosuppressants, enzyme inhibitors, antiviral, hypercholesteremic, antineoplastic/antitumor, anti-inflammatory agents. Within this chapter, several examples metabolites produced species proven effects beneficial antithrombotic potential thoroughly reviewed. After recent updates field "omics" "one strain many compounds" (OSMAC) approaches, within chapter emerging use fungal endophytes strong unconventional biologically active producing pharmacologically valuable specific plant-derived products is also presented. Overall, explores current future perspectives potent properties subsequent health benefits applications supplements and/or drugs.

Abstract Edible Astraeus mushrooms are known for their nutritional and culinary benefits potential therapeutic properties. However, more investigation discussion still needed to understand mechanisms of action regarding observed biological activities thorough chemical analysis bioactive compounds. This review provides a comprehensive summary the properties mode extracts isolated It covers reported antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, antidiabetic, anticancer, anti‐tuberculosis, antimalarial, antiviral antileishmanial activities, as well on metabolic cardiovascular health immune function. The highlights significance compounds, such sugar alcohols, polysaccharides, steroids, lanostane triterpenoids. Moreover, identifies under‐researched areas, species, which holds immense research potential. Ultimately, aims inspire further nutraceuticals or therapeutics these mushrooms.

Lipid molecules, such as policosanol, ergosterol, sphingomyelin, omega 3 rich phosphatidylcholine, α-tocopherol, and sodium butyrate, have emerged novel additions to the portfolio of bioactive lipids. In this state-of-the-art review, we discuss these lipids, their activity against obesity mental or neurological disorders, with a focus on proposed cellular targets ways in which they produce beneficial effects. Furthermore, available information is compared that provided by silico Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, Toxicity (ADMET) models order understand usefulness tools for discovery new compounds. Accordingly, it was possible highlight how lipids interact various related molecule transportation absorption (e.g., α-tocopherol transfer protein α-Tocopherol, ATP-binding cassette ABC transporters Apolipoprotein E sphingomyelins phospholipids) other processes, regulation gene expression (involving Sterol Regulatory Element-Binding Proteins ergosterol Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors case policosanol) inflammation (the interleukins butyrate). When comparing literature Quantitative Structure–Activity Relationship (QSAR) models, observed although are useful selecting molecules when batch, provide does not coincide assessed individually. Our review highlights importance considering broad range potential bioactives need accurate prediction ADMET parameters biomolecules. This study investigated the development of hybrid cheese analogues (HCA) made with fermented brewery side-stream ingredients (spent yeast and malt rootlets) dairy milk. Different percentages flours (3.5%, 5%, 7.5%) were mixed pasteurized milk, developed HCA evaluated for their biochemical textural properties. The addition a fermentation step improved nutrient availability led to pH (range 4.79-5.60) moisture content 45.86%-61.29%) similar traditional animal-based fresh cheeses (control). inclusion coagulation, even without rennet addition. higher concentration flour used, faster coagulation time, suggesting synergistic effect between enzymes present in flours. Nevertheless, properties inferior compared control. Selected formulations added 3.5% exhibited increased counts enterococci enterobacteria cell densities, ranging from 7.28 ± 0.03 7.72 0.09 log CFU/g 4.90 0.16 5.41 0.01 CFU/g, respectively. Compared control sample, concentrations organic acids, peptides, free amino acids (FAAs). Lactic acid reached up 23.78 0.94 g/kg dry matter (DM), while peptide area 22918.50 2370.93 mL⋅AU. Additionally, total individual FAAs 2809.74 104.85 mg/kg DM, contrasted control, which resulted lower (847.65 0.02 DM). overall findings suggested that despite challenges microbiological quality properties, produced could be sustainable solution produce nutritious alternatives.
