Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are unseen, dangerous organic compounds that can cause major health disorders. PFASs have been categorized as persistent, bioaccumulative, toxic (PBT). This review provides knowledge about the present in junk food packaging materials, which migrate into food. Different types of samples were analyzed using analytical methods. The most preferred method extraction is ultrasonic-assisted (UAE). It summarizes approaches PFASs. results numerous studies show perfluorooctanoic acid often detected compound with high concentrations. European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced tolerable weekly intake (TWI) 4.4 ng/kg. US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has limit for perfluorobutane sulfonic due to its toxicity level. These potential effects on both people's biosphere. PFAS usage stop industries a better future.

Abstract Food contact materials should not release their constituent substances into food at levels harmful to human health nor change the composition, taste, or odor unacceptably. The historical evolution of packaging shows that use plastics has increased dramatically, because its convenience, lightweight, and cost effectiveness, but carries a significant environmental impact. Influenced by trends such as growing awareness footprint stricter safety requirements, conventional is now progressively evolving toward new alternatives. All stakeholders in agrifood system are involved journey transform more sustainable alternatives, while maintaining important functionalities suitable packaging. current most promising alternatives presented this review with benefits, limitations, associated potential hazards, focus on chemical hazards. Although some hazards common packaging, others specific Identification these anticipate any risks posed consumer safety. With much diversity types rules aimed ensuring drastically varying between jurisdictions, it always easy determine best way assess International guidance principles for safe could help drive global harmonization would play crucial role consistent science‐based framework compliance emerging

Food contact materials (FCMs) from three countries were analysed for all extractable organofluorines (EOFs) the and subsequently by target non-target analysis per- polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The EOF varied two orders of magnitude FCM UK Saudi Arabia ranging between 2.14 483 ng cm−2 (0.2–48 g−1) showing that one quarter samples above Danish regulation PFAS in FCM. Target showed high variability composition accounted less than 1% EOF. Non-target screening using HPLC–ICP-MS coupled simultaneously to HRMS occurrence which identified neither LC–MS/MS nor LC–HRMS. This illustrates current approaches fail identify EOFs FCM, would be a problem with new EU proposal ban PFAS.

Perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs) are a significant group of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). They persistent organic chemicals manufactured for their resistance to heat, water, stains. PFCAs ubiquitous in the environment, particularly surface water wastewater, because they widely used everyday consumer products. This contamination poses risk drinking supplies human health, necessitating sensitive effective analytical methods. Traditional liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) is commonly but involves complex sample handling high costs. In this study, we developed an enhanced stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) method coupled with thermal desorption–gas chromatography–mass (TD-GC-MS) analysis water. demonstrates linearity, R2 values from 0.9892 0.9988, low limits detection (LOD) between 21.17 ng/L 73.96 ng/L. Recovery rates varied 47 97%, suggesting efficient extraction. Compared traditional methods, SBSE technique requires only 1 mL volume minimal amounts solvents, enhancing eco-friendliness reducing potential errors. also demonstrated good precision robustness across various matrices. Overall, offers precise, eco-friendly, reliable approach analyzing diverse samples.
