The commensal microbiota of the mosquito gut plays a complex role in determining vector competence for arboviruses. In this study, we identified bacterium from field Aedes albopictus mosquitoes named Rosenbergiella sp. YN46 ( Rosenbergiella_ YN46) that rendered refractory to infection with dengue and Zika viruses. Inoculation 1.6 × 10 3 colony forming units (CFUs) into A. effectively prevents viral infection. Mechanistically, secretes glucose dehydrogenase Ry GDH), which acidifies lumen fed mosquitoes, causing irreversible conformational changes flavivirus envelope protein prevent entry cells. semifield conditions, exhibits effective transstadial transmission blocks virus by newly emerged adult mosquitoes. prevalence is greater low-dengue areas (52.9 ~91.7%) than those dengue-endemic regions (0 ~6.7%). may offer an safe lead biocontrol.

Abstract Comparative studies of the microbiota in whole-body mosquitoes from natural populations and laboratory-reared specimens are scarce, particularly tropical countries like Colombia, where understanding microbial patterns is critical for effective disease control vector management. This study examines bacterial Aedes aegypti by comparing field-collected 3 Colombian regions (Southern Amazon, Central Andean region, Northern Caribbean coast) with laboratory strains (Rockefeller, Otanche, Tolima). These highly endemic dengue associated lineage 1 Ae. aegypti, known its elevated competence. Using next-generation sequencing 16S rRNA gene Illumina technology, we found that exhibited significantly higher alpha beta diversity compared to specimens. Field were enriched families such as Acetobacteraceae, Lactobacillaceae, Bacillaceae, while showed a greater abundance Enterobacteriaceae. Differential analysis revealed Acetobacter Bacillus predominated field mosquitoes, whereas Asaia, Cedacea, Chryseobacterium more common Notably, Pseudomonas Acinetobacter consistently abundant across all samples. Our findings suggest environmental factors, habitat diet, influence composition Colombia. Future research should further explore how these alongside genetic components, shape mosquito–microbiota interactions their implications transmission

Abstract Aedes albopictus ( Ae. ) is widely distributed and can transmit many infectious diseases, insecticide‐based interventions play an important role in vector control. However, increased insecticide resistance has become a severe public health problem, the clarification of its detailed mechanism matter urgence. This study found that target‐site metabolic could not fully explain field , there were likely other mechanisms involved. The 16S internal transcribed spacer sequencing revealed significant differences species compositions cuticle surface symbiotic bacteria fungi between deltamethrin (DM)‐resistant (DR) DM‐susceptible (DS) . Additionally, abundances Serratia spp. Candida significantly after DM treatment. Furthermore, 2 Rhodotorula mucilaginosa melibiosica 3 marcescens Klebsiella aerogenes sp.) isolated from DR use as their sole carbon source. After reinoculation onto DS R. C. enhanced Moreover, transcriptome surviving exposure gene expression cytochrome P450 enzymes glutathione‐S‐transferases increased, suggesting besides direct degradation, candidate degrading microbes also cause via indirect enhancement mosquito expression. In conclusion, we demonstrated involved development providing novel supplementary insights into mechanisms.

The midgut microbiota of Aedes aegypti is crucial for the mosquito’s development, nutrition, and immunity. However, its communities are also distinctively influenced by colonization different microorganisms, influencing susceptibility to pathogens transmission capacity. In this study, we investigated effects infections with Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Beauveria bassiana on microbial composition Ae. aegypti. These microorganisms were inoculated into midguts third-instar larvae using a soaking method. Midgut samples then analyzed through high-throughput 16S rDNA sequencing assess bacterial load fourth-instar female adult mosquitoes. results reveal that E. coli-colonized (CO_4W) exhibited 20 unique genera, whereas S. aureus-colonized group (S_4W) had operational taxonomic units assigned 194 taxa, including notable decrease in Elizabethkingia. addition, B. infection led significant reduction Elizabethkingia meningoseptica larvae, decreasing from 42.9% control (CK_4W) 0.9% bassiana-infected (B_4W). Distinct profiles compared between mosquitoes larvae. Significant abundance changes found Firmicutes, Bacteroidota, Proteobacteria among groups. Metabolic pathway predictions PICRUSt suggested microorganism invasion enriched pathways involved carbohydrate metabolism amino acid metabolism. Here, we review published studies on interactions WNV infections in mosquitoes. Most articles so far studied bacteria genus Wolbachia infections, obtaining variable results regarding directionality this relationship. In contrast, only few investigate whole microbiome or other bacterial taxa infections. These suggest that genera Serratia Enterobacter may enhance development. Background: Attractive Toxic Sugar Baits (ATSBs) are an innovative vector control strategy based on the “attract-and-kill” principle. The core of ATSBs lies in preparation attractive and toxic baits through mixing proportioning luring active ingredients. Although previous studies have investigated effects mosquitoes, significant challenges remain for broader field application. Methods: This study evaluated five fruit juices as focusing feeding preferences. Preservative concentrations were assessed by measuring antimicrobial activity over time. Two commercial traps tested mosquito entry rates. optimal insecticide species concentration determined mortality An optimized system was developed under a semi-field cage. Statistical analysis performed using GraphPad Prism. Results: Within 24 h, apple juice-based had highest attractant index Culex quinquefasciatus Anopheles sinensis, while pear ATSB most effective Aedes albopictus. A 0.1% preservative best maintained juice stability. LC50 values dinotefuran-based Cx. quinquefasciatus, Ae. albopictus, An. sinensis 1.18 × 10−3, 4.06 10−4, 5.20 10−5 g/L, respectively. Spodoptera frugiperda trap outperformed Drosophilidae trap. Simulated cage tests showed 48 h rates 86.00% 95.67% Conclusion: screening various juices, concentrations, insecticides, devices. system’s efficacy These findings provide strong foundation future application refinement ATSB-based strategies.
