(1) Background: Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are known for their ability to protect against numerous metabolic disorders. The consumption of oily fish is the main source PUFAs in human nutrition and commonly used supplement production. However, seafood an overexploited that cannot be guaranteed cover global demands. Furthermore, it not consumed by everyone ecological, economic, ethical, geographical taste reasons. growing demand natural dietary sources suggests current nutritional insufficient meet needs, less will be. Therefore, crucial find sustainable acceptable all, meeting world population’s needs. (2) Scope: This review aims evaluate recent evidence about alternative plant essential acids, focusing on long-chain omega-3 (n-3) PUFAs. Abstract Seafood can contribute towards healthy and sustainable food systems by improving public health helping achieve net zero carbon emissions. Here, we provide a high-resolution perspective on UK seafood supplies nutrient flows at the species level. We mapped production (capture aquaculture), trade (imports exports), purchases (within out of home) consumption between 2009 2020. dietary recommendations for finfish were not achieved domestic nor national supplies. Mapping revealed that undergoes substantial losses omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B 12 D, which could 73%, 46% 7% UK-recommended intakes, respectively, through exports oily fish such as salmon, herring mackerel. Policies should consider promoting greater locally produced to improve system resilience.
