Self-reported subjective cognitive difficulties (subjective deficits) and rumination are central residual symptoms following major depressive disorder (MDD). These risk factors for more a severe course of illness, despite the considerable relapse MDD, few interventions target remitted phase, high-risk period developing new episodes. Online distribution could help close this gap. Computerized working memory training (CWMT) shows promising results, but findings inconclusive regarding which improve intervention, its long-term effects. This study reports results from longitudinal open-label two-year follow-up pilot-study self-reported 25 sessions (40 min), five times week digitally delivered CWMT intervention. Ten 29 patients MDD completed assessment. Significant large improvements in functioning on behavior rating inventory executive function-adult version appeared after two-years (d = 0.98), no significant were found < 0.308) measured by ruminative responses scale. The former showed moderate non-significant associations to improvement both post-intervention (r 0.575) at 0.308). Strengths included comprehensive intervention long time. Limitations small sample control group. No differences between completers drop-outs found, however, attrition effects cannot be ruled out demand characteristics influence findings. Results suggested lasting online CWMT. Controlled studies with larger samples should replicate these preliminary

Bringing precision to the understanding and treatment of mental disorders requires instruments for studying clinically relevant individual differences. One promising approach is development computational assays: integrating models with cognitive tasks infer latent patient-specific disease processes in brain computations. While recent years have seen many methodological advancements modelling cross-sectional patient studies, much less attention has been paid basic psychometric properties (reliability construct validity) measures provided by assays. In this review, we assess extent issue examining emerging empirical evidence. We find that suffer from poor properties, which poses a risk invalidating previous findings undermining ongoing research efforts using assays study (and even group) provide recommendations how address these problems and, crucially, embed them within broader perspective on key developments are needed translating clinical practice.

Self-regulation has been intensely studied across developmental science disciplines in virtue of its significance to understanding and fostering adaptive functioning throughout life. Whereas research predominantly focused on self-regulatory abilities, age-related changes goals motivation that underlie self-regulation have largely neglected. In a systematic meta-review, we disentangle the development abilities from between infancy adolescence. We further investigate roles parents, teachers, peers socialization separately motivation. searched reviews meta-analyses typical (0–18 years), identifying 1,935 records, which 136 articles were included. Abstract Background Impulsivity is a multidimensional trait associated with substance use disorders (SUDs), but the relationship between distinct impulsivity facets and stages of involvement remains unclear. Methods We used genomic structural equation modeling genome-wide association studies ( N = 79,729–903,147) to examine latent genetic architecture nine traits seven (SU) SUD traits. Results found that SU factors were strongly genetically inter-correlated r G =0.77) their associations differed. Performance on lab assessments of executive functions predicts academic achievement and other positive life outcomes. A primary goal research has been to design interventions that improve outcomes like by improving functions. There is growing policy interest in identifying contexts that cultivate self-regulation. Doing so often entails comparing groups of individuals (e.g., from different schools). We show self-report questionnaires-the most prevalent modality for assessing self-regulation-are prone to reference bias, defined as systematic error arising differences the implicit standards by which evaluate behavior. In three studies, adolescents (N = 229,685) whose peers performed better academically rated themselves lower self-regulation and held higher This effect was not observed task measures led paradoxical predictions college persistence 6 years later. Neurodevelopmental differences have been linked both executive function strengths weaknesses, but evidence for associations between specific profiles neurodevelopmental conditions mixed. In this exploratory study, we adopt unsupervised machine learning approach (self-organising maps), combined with k-means clustering identify data-driven a transdiagnostic sample 566 neurodivergent children aged 8-18 years old. We include measures designed capture two distinct aspects function: performance-based tasks tap state-like efficiency cognitive skills under optimal conditions, behaviour ratings suited capturing trait-like application control everyday contexts. Three were identified: one had consistent difficulties across types assessments, while other inconsistent predominantly rating- or task-based difficulties.
