This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of family functioning, social capital, and civic engagement on mental health in adolescents with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Parents aged 12 17 years (N = 20,708) who participated 2015-2016 National Survey Children’s Health were surveyed about their children’ ACEs (e.g., parental divorce, being a victim violence, living anyone had substance abuse) current disorders, including depression, anxiety, behavioral problems. further asked perceived adolescents’ engagement. Structural equation modeling was conducted test hypothesized pathways using Mplus 8.0.Based parents’ report, 55% have experienced at least one kind ACE. The final structural model proved an excellent fit data (CFI 0.96, RMSEA 0.009, WRMR 1.12). A significantly positive relationship found between disorders (β 0.13, p < 0.05), partially mediated by functioning 0.10, 0.001) 0.01, but not capital 0.12). Low household income -0.24, low parent education -0.05, 0.05) increased likelihood having ACEs. Early assessment interventions for children are necessary prevent development adolescence, especially minority those socioeconomic status. Safe, nurturing, supportive home environments can help mitigate detrimental impact adversity.

With over 20% of children experiencing multiple ACEs, interventions must target protective factors to improve outcomes among these students. The intergenerational continuity of child maltreatment (CM) is a growing public health concern. Identifying modifiable risk and protective factors involved in these cycles crucial. A previous scoping review synthesized the literature on psychosocial associated with CM up to 2018. Since then, sizable number studies have been published; this updated aims summarize recent literature. We conducted comprehensive search across five major databases (PsycINFO, Scopus, Medline, Social Work Abstracts, ProQuest Dissertations/Theses) from November 2018 2023. primary inclusion criterion was documentation maltreatment, reporting at least one or factor. Included human participants, presented original findings, were written English French, employed any research design. This included 29 new studies. Findings indicate that caregivers’ individual (e.g., sociodemographic characteristics, psychopathology), relational IPV, attachment), contextual socioeconomic disadvantage), historical cumulative CM, out-of-home placement), along characteristics second generation are CM. implications for practice suggest targeted interventions should address depression, PTSD, emotional dysregulation survivors, fostering secure, supportive family relationships, positive parenting skills.
