Phthalates are used in plastics, found throughout the marine environment and have potential to cause adverse health effects. In present study, we quantified blubber concentrations of 11 phthalates 16 samples from stranded and/or free-living mammals Norwegian coast: killer whale (Orcinus orca), sperm (Physeter macrocephalus), long-finned pilot (Globicephala melas), white-beaked dolphin (Lagenorhynchus albirostris), harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena), seal (Phoca vitulina). Five compounds were detected across all samples: benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP; 50 % samples), bis(2-ethylhexyl) (DEHP; 33 %), diisononyl (DiNP; diisobutyl (DiBP; 19 dioctyl (DOP; 13 %). Overall, most contaminated individual was dolphin, whilst lowest measured whale, whale. We no neonate The study is important for future monitoring management these toxic compounds.

Abstract Phthalates and bisphenol chemicals have been widely used globally in packaging materials consumer products for several decades. These highly functional become a concern due to their toxicity (i.e., endocrine/hormone modulators) ability migrate from food contact (FCMs) into matrices the environment resulting human environmental health risks. FCMs, composed of postconsumer materials, are particularly high risk containing these compounds. The evaluation recycled feedstocks FCMs is compulsory selection an appropriate detection method comply with applicable regulations necessary evaluate safety. Numerous proposed passed both compound classes that recognized as priority pollutants by United States Environmental Protection Agency European Union. Several brand owners retailers also released own “restricted substance lists” mounting regulatory concerns. This review article has two goals: (1) discuss utilization, toxicology, exposure routes, occurrence levels phthalates bisphenols associated legislation various countries (2) critical understanding updates detection/quantification techniques. Current techniques discussed include extraction sample preparation methods (solid‐phase microextraction [SPME], headspace SPME, Soxhlet procedure, ultrasound‐assisted extraction), chromatographic (gas, liquid, detectors), environmental/blank considerations quantification. complements previous foods 2009 discussing phthalate characteristics, analytical determining concentrations influence on migration potential food.

Plasticized cellulose acetate (CA) is one of the most applied bio-based polymers due to its structural properties and easy processing. Plasticizers are added CA increase workability, prevent degradation under processing conditions ensure thermo-mechanical suitable for intended final application. Moreover, inexpensive non-toxic solvents enable into fibers, films, solid blocks. However, when incorporated in polymer matrix, plasticizers prone migration. products can suffer embrittlement, cracking, warping, or discoloration during their life cycle, affecting material's integrity durability. The design new compatible with at high concentrations, tailored be effective lowering glass transition temperature, a low tendency migration could considerably reduce material over time. This review offers perspective on current comprehensively depicts plasticization mechanisms internal external plasticization. Understanding paves way identify rationale designing this polymer.

Evaluating the occurrence of high production volume chemicals (HPVCs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in air is important because they carry a carcinogenic risk can lead to respiratory or endocrine problems. Examples HPVCs are organophosphate esters, benzosulfonamides, benzothiazoles, phthalate esters (PAEs), phenolic antioxidants ultraviolet stabilizers. In this paper we develop multi-residue method for determining PAHs samples via pressurized liquid extraction followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Air were collected active sampling with samplers using quartz fiber filter particulate matter (PM10) polyurethane foams phase. The compounds found at highest concentrations PAEs, concentration up 24 ng m−3 DEHP phase 109 DEHA PM10. Non-carcinogenic assessment results ranged from 9.7E-05 9.5E-03 most studied.
