OBJECTIVES: Sleep disturbances may contribute to the development of delirium, prolonged ICU stay, and increased mortality. There is conflicting data on effectiveness earplugs eye masks for sleep promotion in ICU. This study evaluates impact quality postoperative surgical patients at risk frequent awakenings. DESIGN: Prospective randomized controlled trial. SETTING: Surgical within University Texas Southwestern Medical Center. PATIENTS: Adult, female admitted requiring hourly assessments following breast free flap surgery between February 2018 October 2019. INTERVENTIONS: Patients were into an intervention group or a control group. The received addition standard care, whereas care. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: primary outcome was overall assessed via Richards-Campbell Questionnaire. Secondary outcomes patient satisfaction rates delirium with modified version Family Satisfaction survey Confusion Assessment Method After planned interim analysis, stopped early because prespecified criteria significance attained. Compared group’s average Questionnaire total score 47.3 (95% CI, 40.8–53.8), significantly higher 64.5 58.3–70.7; p = 0.0007). no significant between-group differences scores scores. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that are effective improving undergoing assessments. strengthen evidence nonpharmacologic sleep-promoting adjuncts

The accuracy of actigraphy for sleep staging is assumed to be poor, but examination limited. This systematic review aimed assess the performance in stage classification adults. A search was performed using MEDLINE, Web Science, Google Scholar, and Embase databases. We identified eight studies that compared architecture estimates between wrist-worn polysomnography. Large heterogeneity found with respect how stages were grouped, choice metrics used evaluate performance. Quantitative synthesis not possible, so we a narrative literature. Abstract Aim The aim of the study was to compare effects massage interventions on sleep quality among patients in adult critical care unit. Background Massage have positive when applied manage units. However, research identifying effect intervention is limited. Design This adhered Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Methods Five databases were searched from their inception 15 April 2022 (the last search conducted November 2022, but it yielded no additional eligible studies). literature using Embase, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PsycINFO sources such as Google Scholar. risk bias tool randomised trials (RoB 2.0) used assess bias. Grading Recommendations Assessment, Development Evaluation (GRADE) system assessed certainty evidence recommendations. Results In total, ten controlled comprising 569 participants systematic review, eight included meta‐analysis. Subgroup analysis revealed significant foot reflexology subjective quality. therapy a two‐night duration cardiac unit exhibited overall GRADE low. Published: July 22, 2019

In the intensive care unit (ICU), prolonged inactivity is common, increasing patients' risk for adverse outcomes, including ICU-acquired weakness. Hence, interventions to minimize are gaining popularity, highlighting actigraphy, a measure of activity involving wristwatch-like accelerometer, as method inform these efforts. Therefore, we performed systematic review studies that used actigraphy patient in ICU setting.
