Since the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, many jurisdictions, including Canada, have made use public health measures such as quarantine to reduce transmission virus. To examine associations between these periods and mental health, suicidal ideation deliberate self-harm, we examined data from a national survey 3000 Canadian adults distributed May 14-29, 2020. Notably, participants provided reason(s) for quarantine. When pooling all reasons together, this experience was associated with higher odds self-harm in two weeks preceding survey. These remained even after controlling age, household income, having pre-existing condition, being unemployed due living alone. However, differed across quarantine; those who were self-isolating specifically recent travel not found or self-harm.
