Abstract Enhanced habit formation, greater automaticity and impaired goal/habit arbitration in obsessive-com-pulsive disorder (OCD) are key hypotheses from the imbalance theory of compulsion which have not been directly investigated. This study tests these using a combination newly developed behavioral tasks. First, we trained both OCD patients healthy controls, smartphone app, to perform chunked action sequences. motor training was conducted daily for one month. Both groups displayed equivalent procedural learning attainment habitual perfor-mance (measured with an objective criterion automaticity), despite subjective tendencies OCD, self-reported via recently questionnaire. Participants were subsequently tested on re-evaluation task assess choice between established automatic novel goal-directed showed that sensitive based monetary feedback. However, when physical effort, pronounced preference previously sequence, hypothetically due its intrinsic value. particularly evident higher compulsive symptoms tendencies, who also engaged significantly more habit-training app reported symptom relief at end study. The tendency attribute value familiar actions may be potential mechanism leading compulsions important addition hypothesis OCD. We highlight app-training as reversal therapeutic tool.

An increasing body of studies have revealed a correlation between self-control and problematic short-form video usage. However, the cognitive mechanism underlying this relationship remains unclear. This study aims to investigate mediating roles automaticity value-driven attention Meanwhile, scale usage test (PSVUT) was developed while Chinese version Value-Driven Attention Questionnaire (VDAQ) verified. Drawing upon 561 valid survey responses from respondents, findings show that PSVUT VDAQ used in good validity reliability. Furthermore, serial mediation modelling fully mediates Individuals with lower tend exhibit automatic responses, hence selectively attend towards valuable stimuli. These processes ultimately lead contributes literature by empirically verifying I-PACE theoretical model providing significant implications for preventing online use behaviours.

This study investigates the goal/habit imbalance theory of compulsion in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which postulates enhanced habit formation, increased automaticity, and impaired arbitration. It directly tests these hypotheses using newly developed behavioral tasks. First, OCD patients healthy participants were trained daily for a month smartphone app to perform chunked action sequences. Despite similar procedural learning attainment habitual performance (measured by an objective automaticity criterion) both groups, self-reported higher subjective tendencies via recently questionnaire. Subsequently, re-evaluation task assessing choices between established automatic novel goal-directed actions, groups sensitive based on monetary feedback. However, patients, especially those with compulsive symptoms tendencies, showed clear preference trained/habitual sequences when physical effort, possibly due their attributed intrinsic value. These also used habit-training more extensively reported symptom relief post-study. The tendency attribute value familiar actions may be potential mechanism leading compulsions important addition hypothesis OCD. We highlight training as reversal therapeutic tool.

We then used follow-up tasks further assess between previous automatic new goal-directed sequences. found no evidence for impairments following re-evaluation based on monetary feedback, although there preference engaging sequence under certain conditions may derived its intrinsic value. These findings lead reformulation hypothesis OCD. Finally, higher compulsivity scores showed more engagement habit-training app reported symptom alleviation, implications potential use as form reversal therapy.
