The global leather industry has been at the receiving end of various environmental and ethical backlash as it mainly relies on animal agriculture which contributes to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, welfare concerns. In addition, processing hides into generates a huge amount toxic chemicals, ultimately get released environment. Thus, growing concern for sustainability led exploration alternative materials conventional animal- based leather. this regard, application fungal alternatives in material technology is gaining traction because its high biodegradability, biocompatibility, renewability, well affordable carbon-neutral growth processes. Fungal have found possess significant mechanical physical properties, thanks interwoven hyphal network mycelium, antimicrobial activities ascribed their bioactive metabolites. Various species, including those from Agaricus, Fomes, Ganoderma, Phellinus, Pleutorus genera, are currently being investigated potential area. This review, therefore, attempts gain insights recent advances scientific research real-world applications fungal-derived like materials. It makes compelling case sustainable discusses morphology-property relationship mycelium driving innovation. Additionally, current methods major players substitute presented. paper also brings attention challenges facing full deployment substitutes proposes solutions with aim encouraging further resource mobilization acceptance renewable substitute.

Introduction Entomopathogenic fungi play a crucial role in the ecological regulation of insect populations and can be exploited as resource for pest control, sustainable agriculture, natural products discovery. These their infected hosts are sometimes highly coveted part traditional medicine practices. Here, we sought to examine biodiversity entomogenous subtropical forests China. Methods Fungal-infected specimens were collected from various sites Fujian Province, China, purified isolates obtained through laboratory cultivation isolation techniques. Molecular characterization specific target genomic loci was performed on fungal isolates, used phylogenetic analyses using Bayesian inference maximum likelihood methods elucidate taxonomic relationships. Microscopy describe morphological features isolates. Results Through comprehensive two-year survey Province via multilocus molecular analysis targeting nr SSU , LSU tef1-α rpb1, rpb2 specimens, identified three novel species within Clavicipitaceae herein described as: Albacillium fuzhouense sp. nov., Conoideocrella gongyashanensis nov. Neoaraneomyces wuyishanensis well recently recorded, Metarhizium cicadae . Each new also distinguished its closest relatives by unique characteristics. Species of Ganoderma (Ganodermataceae, Polyporales) have been extensively utilized in traditional Chinese medicine for over two millennia, owing to their remarkable medicinal properties and diverse chemical constituents. Hainan Island, located tropical China, harbors a rich diversity species. Among these, certain varieties referred as “Lingzhi Wang” or “Zhu Lingzhi” by indigenous communities are distinguished diminutive pilei slender stipes. Despite recognition, these species subject morphological confusion. In this study, specimens labeled were subjected comprehensive examinations molecular phylogenetic analyses. The findings reveal that the characterized small gracile stipes encompass at least five distinct new science: G. baisuzhenii shennongii. remaining three species, bambusicola, flexipes, subflexipes, previously described. Taxonomically, bambusicola was reported first time on mainland. This study provides clearer taxonomic framework medicinally significant fungi.

Ganoderma is a large and diverse genus containing fungi that cause white rot to infect number of plant families. This study describes G. phyllanthicola suae as new species from Southwest China, based on morphological molecular evidence. characterized by dark brown purplish black pileus surface with dense concentric furrows, pale yellow margin, irregular pileipellis cells, small pores (5–7 per mm) ellipsoid sub-globose basidiospores (8.5–10.0 × 6.0–7.5 µm). reddish oxblood red lead gray greyish-white pore surface, heterogeneous context, wavy margin almond-shaped narrow (8.0–10.5 5.0–7.0 μm). The phylogeny reconstructed multi-gene sequences: the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), subunit (nrLSU), translation elongation factor 1-α gene (TEF-1α) second RNA polymerase II (RPB2). results show formed two distinct line-ages within . Descriptions, illustrations phylogenetic analyses are presented.
