Abstract Aims While the cross-sectional relationship between internet gaming disorder (IGD) and depression is well-established, whether IGD predicts future remains debated, underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. This large-scale, three-wave longitudinal study aimed to clarify predictive role of in explore mediating effects resilience sleep distress. Methods A cohort 41,215 middle school students from Zigong City was assessed at three time points: November 2021 (T1), 2022 (T2) 2023 (T3). IGD, depression, distress were measured using standardized questionnaires. Multiple logistic regression used examine associations baseline both concurrent subsequent depression. Mediation analyses conducted with T1 as predictor, T2 serial mediators T3 outcome. To test robustness findings, a series sensitivity performed. Additionally, sex differences mediation pathways explored. Results (1) independently associated (T1: adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 4.76, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.79–5.98, p < 0.001), 1 year later (T2: AOR 1.42, CI: 1.16–1.74, 0.001) 2 years (T3: 1.24, 1.01–1.53, 0.042); (2) multiple effect identified The 60.7% unadjusted model 33.3% model, accounting for distress, other covariates. our findings supported by various analyses; (3) Sex observed roles resilience, being higher boys compared girls. Conclusions significant predictor adolescents, serving key mediators. Early identification targeted interventions may help prevent Intervention strategies should prioritize enhancing improving quality, particularly among risk.

As research on gaming disorder (GD) is growing globally, the need for a valid and reliable instrument to assess GD has become crucial. Therefore, present cross-sectional study translated evaluated psychometric properties of Gaming Disorder Test (GDT) Scale Young Adults (GADIS-YA) into Malay language versions. The sample comprised 624 university students (females = 75.6%; mean age 22.27 years) recruited via an online survey from May August 2022, using convenience sampling method. Participants completed both GDT GADIS-YA scales other relevant measures including Bergen Social Media Addiction (BSMAS), Internet Scale-Short Form (IGDS9-SF), time spent social media gaming. Results showed that instruments reported satisfactory internal consistency, confirmatory factor analysis supported one-factor structure two-factor GADIS-YA. Both were strongly correlated with each IGDS9-SF, BSMAS, gaming, supporting concurrent validity. Measurement invariance was confirmed across gender time. These findings suggest versions are problematic among Malaysian students.

The extensive availability of Internet has led to the recognition problematic use (so called addiction, IA) mostly involving adolescents. There are limited data about prevalence and consequences IA in adults especially among high school teachers. Three electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, ISI Web of Science) were searched peer-reviewed articles published between January 2000 – April 2020. Twelve reporting included. A narrative synthesis was employed report results, owing high levels heterogeneity across included studies. Gamers with higher addiction scores more likely have shorter, poorer quality greater daytime sleepiness insomnia than lower non-gamers. In addition, high-volume worsened quantity quality, delayed timing increased prevalence insomnia. Despite limitations design studies, excessive broadly parameters. Noteworthy lack investigating gamers. Future work should explore relative contribution that various games, genres, activities sleep, physical mental health, particularly vulnerable cohorts engaged contemporary forms
