Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a significant clinical concern in adolescents. The goal of this study was to evaluate the efficacy group interpersonal psychotherapy (G-IPT) combined with treatment as usual (TAU) compared TAU alone treating adolescents NSSI. A randomized controlled trial conducted psychiatric outpatient clinic Hubei Province, China, involving 52 12 17 years age diagnosed Participants were randomly assigned either G-IPT (n=26), who received additional sessions, or TAU-alone (n=26). Outcomes assessed using Ottawa Self-Injury Inventory (OSI), 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), Interpersonal Disturbances Scale (IDS), and Communication (ICS) at pre-treatment [Time Zero (T0)], immediately after completion G-IPT, weeks baseline assessment 1 (T1)], 3 months 2 (T2)]. Forty-eight participants completed all assessments. primary outcomes included reduction NSSI frequency an increase participants’ ability resist Results demonstrated reductions OSI item “NSSI last month” T1 ( P <0.001) T2 =0.008), well improvements “Strength NSSI” <0.001 T1; =0.001 T2). Significant between-group interaction effects observed, indicating that more effective than reducing behaviors. These findings underscore potential adjunct settings for adolescent intervention.

Through the theoretical lens of Strength Weak Ties Theory, this study examined medical advice sought within a self-harm subreddit. Using social constructionist epistemology and employing Reflexive Thematic Analysis, we explored 596 inquiries for about nonsuicidal self-injury-related injuries, wounds, scar care. Five overarching themes were identified: (a) pleading wound care help from weak-ties, (b) expressing fear hospitalization deterring requests to strong-ties, (c) seeking validation harm-reduction weak-ties (d) asking how navigate unexpected outcomes, (e) requesting conceal scars strong-ties. Our findings align with previous research by describing Reddit as valuable resource when strong-ties are inaccessible or unapproachable. They extend existing literature highlighting users' frequently asserted preference online due stigma involuntary fears often associated mental health providers. We discuss need injury best practices in accessible spaces while offering practical implications key stakeholders. Given frequent spread mis/disinformation on user-generated networks, also emphasize importance verifying accuracy received before implementing suggestions anonymous weak ties connections. Ultimately, highlights nuances between inquiries, support, barriers empathetic healthcare individuals engaging self-injury.

Several studies have reported the association of psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) with non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). It has been hypothesized that both constructs might share overlapping backgrounds. This study aimed to investigate relationships between childhood trauma, depression, PLEs and lifetime characteristics NSSI. Participants included individuals aged 18–35 years who had a negative history psychiatric treatment. They were surveyed through computer-assisted web interview. A network analysis was performed. total 4203 non-clinical adults (63.8 % females) enrolled. The NSSI sexual abuse most central nodes in network. only category trauma directly connected (i.e., longer duration NSSI). shortest pathways from other categories (emotional abuse, emotional neglect bullying) effects abuse. However, also possible converged on representing persecutory thoughts, déjàvu experiences, psychomotor retardation/agitation suicidal ideation. Abstract Background Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is highly prevalent in adolescents. In survey and interview studies assessing NSSI, methods of assessment have been shown to influence prevalence estimates. However, knowledge which groups adolescents that are identified with different measurement lacking, the characteristics yet be investigated. Further, only a handful carried out using exploratory identify subgroups among NSSI. Methods The performance two measures (single-item vs. behavioral checklist) same cross-sectional community sample ( n = 266, age M 14.21, 58.3% female) was compared regarding estimates also characterization lifetime NSSI prevalence. A cluster analysis sample. Identified clusters were defined measures. Results total 118 (44.4%) participants acknowledged having engaged at least once. Of these, group 55 (20.7%) confirmed on single item 63 (23.7%) checklist, while denying item. Groups differed significantly, single-item being more severely affected higher mean scores difficulties emotion regulation, self-criticism, number methods, frequency rates suicidal ideation behavior lower score health-related quality life. All cases severity not by question. Cluster three clusters, fit well checklist Conclusions When investigating adolescents, findings influenced researchers’ choice present study provides some directions toward what kind expect given type measure used, both regards size its composition. Implications for future research as clinical preventive work discussed.
