Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of mortality worldwide, driven by complex interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, with diet playing a pivotal role. Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), cornerstone Mediterranean (MedDiet), is plant-based fat that has garnered attention for its robust cardiovascular benefits, which attributed to unique composition monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), particularly oleic acid (OA); bioactive polyphenols, such as Hydroxytyrosol (HT) oleocanthal. These compounds collectively exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, vasodilatory, lipid-modulating effects. Numerous clinical preclinical studies have demonstrated EVOO's properties reduce major modifiable risk including hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity, type 2 diabetes. EVOO also promotes endothelial function increasing nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability, thus favoring vasodilation, lowering blood pressure (BP), supporting vascular integrity. Furthermore, it modulates biomarkers health, C-reactive protein, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, NT-proBNP, aligning improved hemostatic balance reduced arterial vulnerability. Emerging evidence highlights interaction gut microbiota, further augmenting cardioprotective This review synthesizes current evidence, elucidating multifaceted mechanisms action therapeutic potential. Future directions emphasize need advanced extraction techniques, nutraceutical formulations, personalized dietary recommendations maximize health benefits. represents valuable addition strategies aimed at reducing global burden diseases.

Sesquiterpenes such as leucodin and the labdane-type diterpene manool are natural compounds endowed with remarkably in vitro vasorelaxant vivo hypotensive activities. Given their structural similarity sesquiterpene lactone (+)-sclareolide, this molecule was selected a scaffold to develop novel vasoactive agents. Functional, electrophysiology, molecular dynamics studies were performed. The opening of five-member ring (+)-sclareolide provided series labdane-based small molecules, promoting significant effect. Electrophysiology data identified 7 CaV1.2 channel blocker KCa1.1 stimulator. These activities also confirmed intact vascular tissue. antagonism caused by agonist Bay K 8644 suggested that might interact dihydropyridine binding site. Antioxidant capacity and sensory analysis of olive oils different quality grades (Extra virgin, Virgin, Ordinary Lampante) were investigated to define their possible differences useful for discrimination. Total phenolic content discriminated the sample Lampante oil (LVOO) with values (0.95 mg GAE/g) significantly lower than other (1.85, 1.80 1.98 A, D E samples, respectively). The principal component (PCA) revealed that attributes (“bitter” “pungent”) antioxidant (expressed by FRAP ABTS•+) are positively correlated Extra-virgin (EVOO) Virgin (VOO) categories, evidencing high values. In conclusion, based on evaluated parameters, between categories found. Still, they did not allow us clearly separate two oils.

During pregnancy, uterine vasculature undergoes significant circumferential growth to increase blood flow, vital for the growing feto-placental unit. However, this process is often compromised in conditions like maternal high pressure, particularly preeclampsia (PE), leading fetal impairment. Currently, there no cure PE, partly due adverse effects of anti-hypertensive drugs on and health. This study aimed investigate vasodilator effect extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) phenols reproductive vasculature, potentially benefiting both mother fetus. Isolated arteries (UAs) from pregnant rats were tested with EVOO a pressurized myograph. To elucidate underlying mechanisms, additional experiments conducted specific inhibitors: L-NAME/L-NNA (10−4 M) nitric oxide synthases, ODQ (10−5 guanylate cyclase, Verapamil L-type calcium channel, Ryanodine + 2-APB (3 × 10−5 ryanodine inositol triphosphate receptors, respectively, Paxilline large-conductance calcium-activated potassium channel.
