Background: Mild cognitive decline, a common issue in aging, affects memory, learning, and attention. Nutrition can influence cognition, research indicates that Ocimum sp. (holy basil sweet basil) leaf extracts may enhance cognition rodents humans. However, these studies do not address whether benefits extend to fresh or dry leaves consumed typical human diets, along with physiological aging. Aim: To investigate the effects of supplementation on mature aged female mice. Methods: Female C57bl mice were divided into four groups: 8-month-old adults 18-month-old adults, each receiving either control supplemented diet. The diet included mix standard chow leaves, administered for 2–8 months. Cognitive behavioral assessments conducted using novel object recognition (NOR), Morris water maze (MWM), elevated plus (EPM) tasks, focusing anxiety. Results: No improvement was observed long-term showed enhanced discrimination NOR stayed closer absent platform MWM compared nonsupplemented controls. While aging exhibited reduced anxiety-like behavior EPM, prevented this reduction. Conclusion: Basil appears beneficial elderly mice, potentially preventing age-related decline changes.
