Purpose: This study aimed to compare the perimacular ganglion cell complex (GCC) and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness measurements of epileptic healthy individuals. Methods: The right eyes 38 individuals who had been using antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) for at least 1 year were included in study. Central macular thickness, GCC volume, layers measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) device. Perimacular 1, 3, 6 mm circle diameters Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS ) selected measurements. Results: In epilepsy patients, was significantly lower 3 superior quadrant all quadrants compared control group ( P < 0.05). RNFL thinner patients only temporal-inferior There no significant difference between received AEDs as monotherapy polytherapy > Conclusion: We found that thinning group. Our findings from show early changes especially layers, can be followed up with OCT.

Artificial Intelligence is a rapidly expanding field within computer science that encompasses the emulation of human intelligence by machines. Machine learning and deep - two primary data-driven pattern analysis approaches under umbrella artificial has created considerable interest in last few decades. The evolution technology resulted substantial amount research on ophthalmic neurodegenerative disease diagnosis using retinal images. Various intelligence-based techniques have been used for diagnostic purposes, including traditional machine learning, their combinations. Presented here review literature covering 10 years this topic, discussing use analysing data from different modalities combinations glaucoma diseases. performance published methods varies due to several factors, yet results suggest such can potentially facilitate clinical diagnosis. Generally, accuracy intelligence-assisted ranges 67-98%, area sensitivity-specificity curve (AUC) 0.71-0.98, which outperforms typical 71.5% 0.86 curve. This indicates tools provide clinicians with useful information would assist providing improved suggests there room improvement existing models imaging before they are incorporated into practice.

With the aging of global population, health care burden Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and dementia is considered to increase dramatically in coming decades. Given insufficiency effective interventions for AD dementia, clinical research on identifying potentially modifiable risk factors early diagnostic biomarkers becomes a public priority. Currently, extracerebral manifestations with large proportion ocular involvement are usually recognized precede symptoms dementia. Growing epidemiologic evidence also suggests that eye disorders, such as cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, so on, closely associated even have higher incidence The eye, an extension central nervous system, therefore has potential provide feasible approach detecting structural functional abnormalities brain. Numerous new imaging modalities developed give novel insights into detection several neurodegenerative, vascular, neuropathological, other scientific application. This review provides overview associations between disorders or summarizes recent advances examinations techniques employed more brain-and-eye interconnections being identified, becoming noninvasive easily accessible window diagnosis prevention
