Periodontal disease is a prevalent chronic inflammatory condition that impacts over billion people worldwide, leading to substantial tooth loss, reduced quality of life, and heightened systemic health risks. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence regarding the global burden periodontal disease, its established associations with conditions including cardiovascular diabetes, adverse pregnancy outcomes, respiratory infections, neurodegenerative disorders, significant socioeconomic implications. The focused on following research question: What how do implications necessitate integrated public strategies? A structured search PubMed, Scopus, WHO databases from 2000 2024 was conducted identify relevant literature using key terms, “periodontal disease”, “global burden”, “systemic inflammation”, “public strategies”. Lactobacillus reuteri essential for use as probiotic among many healthy This study aims compare effectiveness probiotics in periodontal treatment. Methods One hundred smokers diagnosed with chronic generalized periodontitis were randomly assigned into two groups. Group A received seven-day course amoxicillin 500 mg three day metronidazole twice daily, followed by 30 days while B placebo seven L. (2×10⁸ CFU daily). Periodontal parameters, including plaque index (PI), gingival (GI), probing depth (PD), attachment loss (AL), bleeding on (BOP), utilized asses at baseline, month one, one. Baseline differences adjusted using estimating equation (GEE) model. Results three, (probiotics) showed significantly lower PI (0.52±0.49 vs. 0.88±0.52, p<0.001) 23% greater reduction PD (p=0.004) compared (antibiotics + probiotics). Abstract According to an ADA report, approximately 15% of the US population requires dental care annually but does not receive it. Access care, particularly for periodontal examinations, is challenging many individuals, leading uncontrolled periodontitis progression and systemic health complications. Periodontitis, inflammatory gum disease, affects nearly half American adults over 30. Current diagnostic approaches rely on exams radiographs, requiring clinical settings experienced providers. However, individuals lack access making it difficult obtain up-to-date probing depth, X-rays or CT scans. To address this gap, we developed a machine learning (ML) tool at-home preliminary assessments. This would benefit unaware their undiagnosed conditions those with limited empowering them prioritize seek timely treatment within constraints. Our leverages NHANES database train ML model multimodal features relevant that are radiographic-independent. We labeled different severity based charting records performed feature engineering dataset. first baseline subsequently trained additional classifiers, conducting comprehensive hyperparameter search resulted in consistent performance.
