Moving toward a more sustainable development, pivotal role is played by circular economy and smarter waste management. Industrial wastes from plants offer wide spectrum of possibilities for their valorization, still being enriched in high added-value molecules, such as secondary metabolites (SMs). The current review provides an overview the most common SM classes (chemical structures, classification, biological activities) present different plant waste/by-products potential use various fields. A bibliographic survey was carried out, taking into account 99 research articles (from 2006 to 2020), summarizing all information about type, its source, industrial sector provenience, contained SMs, reported bioactivities, proposals valorization. This highlighted that great deal publications are focused on exploitation human healthcare food (including cosmetic, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical additives). However, summarized this review, SMs also possess enormous further uses. Accordingly, increasing number investigations neglected matrices areas veterinary science or agriculture expected, considering need implement "greener" practices latter sector.

Published: Jan. 4, 2022

In recent years, the search for natural plant-based antimicrobial compounds as alternatives to some synthetic food preservatives or biocides has been stimulated by sanitary, environmental, regulatory, and marketing concerns. this context, besides their established antioxidant activity, activity of many plant phenolics deserved increased attention. Indeed, industries processing agricultural plants generate considerable quantities phenolic-rich products by-products, which could be valuable sources molecules. Plant extracts containing volatile (e.g., essential oils) non-volatile molecules can distinguished. oils are outside scope review. This review will thus provide an overview current knowledge regarding promises limits preservation biofilm control on food-contacting surfaces. After a presentation major groups phenolics, spectrum, diversity mechanisms action, most promising reviewed. Since reduction often observed when comparing in vitro situ activities reported limit application, effects composition microstructure matrices unwanted microorganisms present and/or microbial biofilms) discussed. Then, different strategies delivery promote such matrices, encapsulation association with edible coatings packaging materials presented. The possibilities offered polymers increase stability ease use before well get systems controlled release presented Finally, necessity consider combination other factors consistently hurdle technology principles For instance, several authors recently suggested that not only extend shelf-life foods controlling bacterial contamination, but also coexist probiotic lactic acid bacteria enhanced health benefits human.

Periodontal diseases and dental caries are the most common infectious oral impacting health globally. Oral cavity is crucial for enhancing life quality since it serves as entranceway to general health. The microbiome strongly correlated. Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria have been associated with periodontal diseases. Due shortcomings of several antimicrobial medications frequently applied in dentistry, lack resources developing countries, prevalence inflammatory conditions, rise bacterial antibiotic resistance, there a need reliable, efficient, affordable alternative solutions prevention treatment Several accessible chemical agents can alter microbiota, although these substances also unfavorable symptoms such vomiting, diarrhea, tooth discoloration. Natural phytochemicals generated from plants that historically used medicines categorized prospective alternatives due ongoing quest substitute products. This review concentrated on or herbal extracts impact by decreasing formation biofilms plaques, preventing proliferation pathogens, inhibiting adhesion surfaces. Investigations examining effectiveness safety plant-based presented, including those conducted over past decade.

Agricultural-based adsorbents have received an upsurge of interest in the water treatment industry especially area adsorption. They been widely investigated as next generation due to their unique physio-chemical properties and high affinity towards a wide variety constituents ranging from organic compounds heavy metal ions. In addition, agricultural-based are now cheaper sustainable option opposed non-renewable expensive originating coal, polymers, petroleum residues. Among different agriculture wastes available, walnut shells exhibit great potential activated carbon precursor. outstanding chemical stability, surface low ash content. this review, shell-based assessed terms activation methods preparation. Furthermore, adsorbents' resulting characteristics factors influencing adsorption capacity summarized thoroughly analyzed. It has determined that efficiency is heavily associated with adsorbent including pore diameter, area, functional groups nature background solution pH, temperature ionic strength. This review identifies reported literature physical impregnation functionalization. The survey also entails comprehensive discussion involving types mechanisms controlling behaviors targeted contaminants. Moreover, detailed analysis isotherms kinetics involved process included. Finally, mentions future research needs challenges by adsorbents.

Walnut anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is a deleterious disease that severely affects the production of walnut (Juglans regia L.). The aim this study was to assess antifungal and growth promotion activities Bacillus velezensis CE 100 as an alternative chemical use in production. crude enzyme from B. exhibited chitinase, protease, β-l,3-glucanase activity degraded cell wall C. gloeosporioides, causing inhibition spore germination mycelial 99.3% 33.6% at µL/mL, respectively. field application culture broth resulted 1.3-fold 6.9-fold decrease severity compared conventional control groups, Moreover, produced indole-3-acetic acid (up 1.4 µg/mL) potential for ammonium phosphate solubilization enhance availability essential nutrients. Thus, inoculation improved root development, increased nutrient uptake, enhanced chlorophyll content, consequently total biomass 1.5-fold 2.0-fold These results demonstrate effective biocontrol agent against plant growth-promoting bacteria tree
