Abstract Because the oral and maxillofacial areas are adjacent to important organs such as brain eyes contain a rich network of nerves blood vessels, this poses great challenge for surgery areas. Traditional treatment protocols rely excessively on physician's clinical experience imagination preoperative planning do not provide intuitive reliable intraoperative guidance physician during surgery. With rapid development medical imaging technology, computer-aided dynamic navigation (CADIN) has been introduced into field its ability accurately locate key anatomical structures intraoperatively surgeon with safe surgical boundary in real time. However, vast majority surgeries still dominated by traditional methods without or computer-assisted static (CASN), CADIN techniques widely used. Therefore, paper presents systematic review application technology from 2018-2023 searching PubMed database, discusses problems faced actual surgery, proposes solutions improve accuracy scope future.

Background/Aim: Reconstruction of the fractured orbit remains a challenge. The aim this study was to compare anatomical preformed titanium orbital implants with patient-specific CAD/CAM for precision and intraoperative applicability. Material Methods: A total 75 reconstructions from 2012 2022 were retrospectively assessed their implant position intra- postoperative revision rates. For purpose, after digital reconstruction checked deviations by mirroring healthy at 5 defined points, medical records patients revisions. Results: evaluation 45 cases showed significantly higher an inaccuracy 66.6% than 30 only 10% inaccuracy. In particular, more precise in medial posterior positioning. addition, rates 26.6% vs. 11% 3D imaging 13% 0 implants. Conclusion: We conclude that are highly suitable primary reconstruction. Surgical navigation has advanced maxillofacial surgery since the 1990s, bringing benefits for various indications. Traditional registration methods use fiducial markers that are either invasively bone-anchored or attached to a dental vacuum splint and offer high accuracy but necessitate additional imaging with increased radiation exposure. We propose novel, non-invasive protocol using CAD/CAM based on high-resolution intraoral scans.

Abstract Objectives Symmetry is essential for computer-aided surgical (CAS) procedures in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS). A critical step successful CAS mirroring the unaffected side to create a template virtual reconstruction of injured anatomical structure. The aim was identify specific landmarks midfacial skeleton, evaluate symmetry group real-world Central European population, use these assess CT scans. Material methods retrospective cross-sectional study defined midface’s bony contour using viscerocranial data. distances skeletal (e.g., frontozygomatic suture temporozygomatic suture) left right sides from midline were measured statistically compared. Midfacial reference points as difference within 0 mm their mean plus one standard deviation. Results We examined total 101 75% our population shows symmetrical proportions midface. means differences ranged 0.8 1.3 mm, averaging 1.1 ± 0.2 all landmarks. deviations 0.6 1.4 with computed 0.9 0.3 mm. Conclusion established methodology If determined equal or lower than 2.5 mentioned landmarks, then midface considered present, symmetry-based are applicable. Clinical relevance Many require facial symmetry. provide an easy-to-apply method probe may be used population-based research, check proper reduction fractures after reposition screen prior planning.

Proper treatment of the two-wall fractured orbit is still controversial. Specifically, there no consensus on issue necessity medial orbital wall repair. With anatomically critical structures at risk during surgical approach, surgeons' view repair often restricted and an aesthetically disturbing enophthalmos more likely to be accepted. Therefore, options range from leaving without reconstruction with autogenous tissue or alloplastic materials, which can lead moderate severe side effects. However, emerging technologies such as patient-specific implants (PSI) offer a reliable correct bony orbit. This study aimed evaluate outcome full using PSIs compared only floor PDS (bioresorbable polydioxanone) foils untouched in traumatic fractures.
