Abstract Phycobiliproteins, carotenoids and fucoxanthin are photosynthetic pigments extracted from microalgae cyanobacteria with great potential biotechnological applications, as healthy food colorants cosmetics. Phycocyanin possesses a brilliant blue color, fluorescent properties making it useful reagent for immunological essays. The most important source of phycocyanin is the cyanobacterium Arthrospira platensis, however, recently, Rhodophyta Galdieria sulphuraria has also been identified such. main obstacle to commercialization represented by its chemical instability, strongly reducing shelf-life. Moreover, high level purity needed pharmaceutical applications requires several steps which increase both production time cost. Microalgae ( Chlorella , Dunaliella Nannochloropsis Scenedesmus ) produce light harvesting carotenoids, able manage oxidative stress, due their free radical scavenging properties, makes them suitable use natural antioxidants. Many studies focused on selection promising strains producing valuable extraction purification. Among produced marine microalgae, abundant, representing more than 10% total carotenoids. Despite abundance diversity only few species have studied commercial production, relevant being Phaeodactylum tricornutum . Due antioxidant activity, can bring various benefits prevention treatment lifestyle-related diseases. In this review, we update results achieved in extraction, purification, these pigments, motivating cultivation pigments. Graphical abstract

Green alga Caulerpa racemosa is an underexploited species of macroalgae, even though it characterized by a green color that indicates abundance bioactive pigments, such as chlorophyll and possibly xanthophyll. Unlike chlorophyll, which has been well explored, the composition carotenoids C. its biological activities have not reported. Therefore, this study aims to look at carotenoid profile racemose determine their activities, include antidiabetic, anti-obesity, anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxicity in vitro. The detected were all xanthophylls, included fucoxanthin, lutein, astaxanthin, canthaxanthin, zeaxanthin, β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin based on orbitrap-mass spectrometry (MS) rapid ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) diode array detector. Of seven observed, should be highlighted β-carotene canthaxanthin two most dominant present racemosa. Interestingly, extract good activity inhibiting α-glucosidase, α-amylase, DPPH ABTS, TNF-α mTOR, upregulating AMPK, makes drug candidate or functional antidiabetic food, very promising anti-obesity anti-inflammatory. More interestingly, value shows level safety normal cells, potential for further development nutraceuticals pharmaceuticals.

Carotenoids are a large group of health-promoting compounds used in many industrial sectors, such as foods, feeds, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, and colorants. Considering the global population growth environmental challenges, it is essential to find new sustainable sources carotenoids beyond those obtained from agriculture. This review focuses on potential use marine archaea, bacteria, algae, yeast biological factories carotenoids. A wide variety carotenoids, including novel ones, were identified these organisms. The role organisms their actions have also been discussed. Marine great capacity synthesize which can be renewable manner without depleting natural resources. Thus, concluded that they represent key source could help Europe achieve its Green Deal Recovery Plan. Additionally, lack standards, clinical studies, toxicity analysis reduces traditional Therefore, further research processing organisms, biosynthetic pathways, extraction procedures, examination content needed increase carotenoid productivity, document safety, decrease costs for implementation.

Fucoxanthin is one of the light-harvesting pigments in brown microalgae, which increasingly gaining attention due to its numerous health-promoting properties. Currently, production microalgal fucoxanthin not yet feasible from an economic perspective. However, cultivation microalgae at favourable conditions holds great potential increase viability this source. Hence, study aimed review under different systematically. A literature search was performed using Web Science, Scopus and PubMed databases. total 188 articles were downloaded 28 selected for current by two independent authors. Microalgae appeared be a more reliable source compared macroalgae. Overall, consensus condition obtained proposed: light intensity ranging 10 100 µmol/m2/s could achieve higher content. optimal producing species-specific. The serves as antecedent offering insights into fucoxanthin-producing response culture factors via systematic analysis. With findings recommendations, feasibility commercially enhanced possibly practical sustainable production.

Background: Myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury (MIRI) is a severe complication of revascularization therapy in patients with myocardial infarction. Therefore, there an urgent requirement to find more therapeutic solutions for MIRI. Recently, ferroptosis, which characterized by lipid peroxidation, was considered critical contributor Fucoxanthin (FX), natural antioxidant carotenoid, abundant brown seaweed, exerts protective effects under various pathological conditions. However, whether FX alleviates MIRI unclear. This study aims clarify the on Methods: Mice left anterior descending artery ligation were used as vivo models. Neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCs) induced hypoxia vitro TTC-Evans blue staining performed validate infarction size. Transmission electron microscopy employed detect mitochondrial cardiomyocytes. In addition, 4 weeks after MIRI, echocardiography measure cardiac function; fluorescent probes western blots ferroptosis. Results: showed that reduced size ameliorated MIRI-induced myofibril loss mitochondrion shrinkage. Furthermore, improved LVEF LVFS inhibited hypertrophy fibrosis mice study, calcein AM/PI TUNEL cell death caused treatment. DCFH-DA MitoSOX indicated cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). Moreover, C11-BODIPY 581/591 staining, ferro-orange MDA assay, Fe2+ 4-hydroxynonenal enzyme-linked immunosorbent blot results revealed ferroptosis vivo, inhibiting ROS release, well modulating hallmark FTH, TFRC, GPX4 expression. Additionally, eliminated NRF2 inhibitor brusatol, observed from blotting, indicating exerted cardio-protective through pathway. Conclusion: Our alleviated inhibition via signaling
