There is great interest in developing biodegradable biopolymer-based packaging materials whose functional performance enhanced by incorporating active compounds into them, such as light blockers, plasticizers, crosslinkers, diffusion antimicrobials, antioxidants, and sensors. However, many of these are volatile, chemically unstable, water-insoluble, matrix incompatible, or have adverse effects on film properties, which makes them difficult to directly incorporate the materials. These challenges can often be overcome encapsulating within food-grade nanoparticles, then introduced The presence nanoencapsulated coatings films greatly improve their performance. For example, anthocyanins used light-blockers retard oxidation reactions, they pH/gas/temperature sensors produce smart indicators monitor freshness packaged foods. Encapsulated botanical extracts (like essential oils) increase shelf life foods due antimicrobial antioxidant activities. resistance external factors improved plasticizers (glycerol, sorbitol), crosslinkers (glutaraldehyde, tannic acid), fillers (nanoparticles nanofibers). Nanoenabled delivery systems also designed control release ingredients (such antimicrobials antioxidants) food over time, may extend efficacy. This article reviews different kinds nanocarriers available for loading types discusses impact optical, mechanical, thermal, barrier, antioxidant, properties Furthermore, it highlights bioactive that incorporated packaging.

In this study, nanocomposite active films were fabricated containing silver nanoparticles (SNPs) embedded within soy protein isolate (SPI)/Persian gum (PG) matrices. The physical, mechanical, and antibacterial properties of these composite then characterized. addition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) used to provide information about the microstructure, interactions, crystallinity films. Pure SPI had poor physicochemical attributes but addition PG (0.25, 0.5, or 1 wt%) improved their water vapor permeability, mechanical properties, solubility (WS). moisture content (MC) decreased after introduction PG, which was attributed fewer free hydroxyl groups bind molecules. Our results suggest there a strong interaction between SNPs in films, suggesting additives behaved like fillers. Optimum film obtained at 0.25% (0.25%) (1%) led considerable increase tensile strength (TS) decrease elongation break (EB). Furthermore, incorporation into SPI/PG increased activity against pathogenic bacteria (Escherichia coli Staphylococcus aureus), with effects being more prominent for S. aureus. Spectroscopy analyses provided insights nature molecular interactions different components Overall, biodegradable developed study may be suitable utilization as eco-friendly packaging materials food industry.
