Curcumin, an herbal naturally occurring polyphenol, has recently been proposed for the treatment of neurodegenerative, neurological and cancer diseases due to its pleiotropic effect. Recent studies indicated that dysbiosis is associated with abovementioned other diseases, gut microflora may be a new potential therapeutic target. The working hypothesis could explain curative role curcumin, despite limited availability, curcumin acts indirectly on brain, affecting “gut–brain–microflora axis”, complex two-way system in which microbiome composition, are factors preserve determine brain health. It therefore suspected metabolites have direct regulatory effect vice versa, paradox between curcumin’s poor bioavailability commonly reported effects. Curcumin can health benefits by eliminating intestinal dysbiosis. In addition, undergoes enzymatic modifications bacteria, forming pharmacologically more active than their parent, curcumin. this review, we summarize number highlight interaction microbiota consider possibility microbiome-targeted therapies using particularly disease entities currently without causal treatment.

Curcumin is one of the most frequently researched herbal substances; however, it has been reported to have a poor bioavailability and fast metabolism, which led doubts about its effectiveness. antioxidant anti-inflammatory effects, demonstrated favorable health effects. Nevertheless, well-reported in vivo pharmacological activities curcumin are limited by solubility, bioavailability, pharmacokinetic profile. The bidirectional interactions between gut microbiota play key roles understanding ambiguity biological activity curcumin, including wider impact.
