Abstract Introduction In 2015, the term ‘intrinsic capacity’ (IC) was proposed by World Health Organisation to promote healthy aging. However, factors associated with IC are still discrepant and uncertain. Aim We aim synthesise connected IC. Methods This scoping review followed five‐stage framework of Arksey O'Malley reported using PRISMA‐ScR guidelines. Results all, 29 articles were included. older adults is demographic characteristics, socioeconomic factors, disease conditions, behavioural biomarkers. Age, sex, marital status, occupation education, income/wealth, chronic diseases, hypertension, diabetes, disability, smoking alcohol consumption, physical activity emerged as important related adults. Conclusions shows that multiple factors. Understanding these can provide healthcare personnel theoretical basis for intervening managing in Relevance Clinical Practice The influencing identified help guide maintain their own intrinsic capacity, thereby promoting health well‐being. modifiable also evidence develop targeted intervention strategies delay decline. Background: The present systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the cross-sectional longitudinal associations between protein intake sarcopenia in older adults. Methods: Observational studies that association as primary or secondary outcome people aged 60 years were included. Studies published languages other than English, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish excluded. retrieved from MEDLINE, SCOPUS, EMBASE, CINAHL, AgeLine, Food Science Source databases through January 31, 2022. A pooled effect size was calculated based on standard mean differences. Results: Five studies, one study, case-control study 3353 community-dwelling adults with a age of approximately 73 four indicated consumed significantly less their peers no sarcopenia. Conclusions: Results suggest an inadequate might be associated

With the advancement of world population aging, age-related osteoporosis (OP) and sarcopenia (SP) impose enormous clinical economic burden on society. Evidence from accumulating studies indicates that they mutually influence one another. However, an observational study may be affected by potential confounders. Meanwhile, a Mendelian randomization (MR) can overcome these confounders to assess causality. The aim this was evaluate causality between OP SP, informing new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, treatment osteosarcopenia.Instrumental variables (IVs) at genome-wide significance level were obtained published summary statistics, inverse variance weighted method several other MR methods conducted bi-directional SP OP. Myopia analyzed as negative control outcome test validity IVs.Femoral neck bone mineral density (FN BMD), lumbar spine BMD (LS forearm (FA BMD) had direct causal effect appendicular lean mass (ALM) [FA BMD-related analysis: odds ratio (OR) = 1.028, 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.008,1.049), p 0.006; FN OR (95% CI) 1.131 (1.092,1.170), 3.18E-12; LS 1.080 (1.062,1.098), 2.86E-19]. ALM significant [OR (1.033,1.147), 0.001]. There no evidence association low grip strength.OP might have each other. Our results supported idea patient with severe more susceptible lose loss reduce BMD.

The substantial decline in skeletal muscle mass, strength, and gait speed is a sign of severe sarcopenia, which may partly depend on genetic risk factors. So far, hundreds genome-wide significant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with handgrip lean mass walking pace have been identified the UK Biobank cohort; however, their pleiotropic effects all three phenotypes not investigated. By combining summary statistics association studies (GWAS) pace, we 78 independent SNPs (from 73 loci) traits consistent effect directions. Of SNPs, 55 were also body fat percentage 25 type 2 diabetes (T2D), indicating that obesity T2D share many common alleles. Follow-up bioinformatic analysis revealed sarcopenia alleles tiredness, falls last year, neuroticism, alcohol intake frequency, smoking, time spent watching television, higher salt, white bread, processed meat intake; whereas protective positively bone mineral density, serum testosterone, IGF1, 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels, height, intelligence, cognitive performance, educational attainment, income, physical activity, ground coffee drinking healthier diet (muesli, cereal, wholemeal or wholegrain potassium, magnesium, cheese, oily fish, protein, water, fruit, vegetable intake). Furthermore, literature data suggest single-bout resistance exercise induce changes expression 26 implicated genes m. vastus lateralis, explain beneficial strength training prevention treatment sarcopenia. In conclusion, characterized sarcopenic European-ancestry individuals from Biobank.

Sarcopenia, which is characterized by progressive and generalized loss of skeletal muscle mass strength, has been well described to be associated with numerous poor postoperative outcomes, such as increased perioperative mortality, sepsis, prolonged length stay, cost care, decreased functional outcome, poorer oncological outcomes in cancer surgery. Multimodal prehabilitation, a concept that involves boosting optimizing the preoperative condition patient prior upcoming stressors surgical procedure, purported benefits reversing effects sarcopenia, shortening hospitalization, improving rate return bowel activity, reducing costs quality life. This review aims present current literature surrounding its implications pertaining colorectal surgery, summary studied multimodal prehabilitation interventions, potential future advances management sarcopenia.

We aimed review relevant work addressing the interaction between smoking long order characterize smoking’s possibly identify new research directions. Methods: PubMed/MEDLINE database was searched using keywords ‘smoking’, ‘long COVID’, ‘post-acute COVID’ English-language articles published up October 2023. Results conclusions: From 374 initial hits, total 36 papers were deemed aim review. There variability concerning ways which tobacco usage quantified reported; still, there compelling evidence linking an increased developing manifestations post-acute-COVID disease. Some clinical conditions, such dyspnea, cardiovascular symptoms, cognitive or mental-health impairment, seem be relatively strongly associated with smoking, while connection upper-airway involvement less certain. available support recommending cessation tool prevention COVID.
