Polyphenols are organic chemical compounds naturally present in plants, renowned for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, anticancer, and cardiovascular protective properties. Their bioactivity bioavailability can vary widely depending on the methods of food processing interactions with gut microbiome. These factors induce changes polyphenols, affecting ability to achieve intended health benefits. Thus, it is essential develop apply that optimize polyphenol content while maintaining bioavailability. This review aims explore how various techniques affect quantity, bioactivity, as well microbiome, which may ultimately determine effects.

With the aging of global population, neurodegenerative diseases are emerging as a major public health issue. The adoption less sedentary lifestyle has been shown to have beneficial effect on cognitive decline, but molecular mechanisms responsible clear. Here we provide detailed analysis complex molecular, cellular, and systemic underlying age-related decline how choices influence these processes. A review evidence from animal models, human studies, postmortem analyses emphasizes importance integrating physical exercise with cognitive, multisensory, motor stimulation part multifaceted approach mitigating decline. We highlight potential non-pharmacological interventions address key hallmarks, such genomic instability, telomere attrition, neuroinflammation, underscore need for comprehensive personalized strategies promote resilience healthy aging.

Abstract Background Dietary fiber (DF) is beneficial for preventing constipation, and the metabolites produced by gut microbiota fermentation are suggested to positively influence on depression sleep. Additionally, constipation has been reported affect mental health health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study aimed increase DF intake examined its effects daily β-G consumption using two types waxy barley (WB), rich in with varying β-glucan (β-G) content. this WB defecation, sleep, health, HRQoL. Methods A randomized double-blind parallel-group comparison was conducted 68 young Japanese women, Kirarimochi (Group K) as common cultivar Fukumi Fiber F) high-β-G cultivar. Participants consumed rice four weeks, targeting 3 g/day (48 WB). We estimated including from records. Defecation evaluated through records Rome IV criteria-based surveys. Sleep, HRQoL were PSQI-J, J-PHQ-9, SF-36, respectively. Results Both groups about 40 WB. intakes 6.3 g/2.5 g Group K 10.7 g/4.3 F. Regarding both showed increases defecation days, frequency stool amount, no differences between groups. F a decrease (improvement) PSQI global score, improvements noted decreases (improvements) PHQ-9 showing improvement HRQoL, summary scores improvements: physical Conclusion To intake, cultivars effective; however, overall can potentially serve excellent sources DF. Effects may be expected not only but also below target g/day. Although high have more sleep additional studies required.

This chapter examines dietary fiber's evolving role in sports nutrition, extending beyond digestive health to impact athletic performance, recovery, and overall wellness. Fiber enhances gut by fostering beneficial microbiota, improving nutrient absorption, reducing GI issues—vital for endurance strength athletes alike. It aids metabolic regulation stabilizing blood glucose insulin sensitivity, promoting sustained energy efficient recovery. also supports immunity, lowers inflammation, reduces exercise-induced oxidative stress, helping accelerate recovery ease muscle soreness. However, excessive fiber intake can cause discomfort, so tailored guidelines are provided optimizing across training phases. Specific fibers, including prebiotics, beta-glucans, resistant starches, discussed with strategies integrating fiber-rich foods supplements based on activity type, diet preferences, athlete needs.
