Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are bioplastics produced by few bacteria as intracellular lipid inclusions under excess carbon source and nutrient-deprived conditions. These polymers biodegradable resemble petroleum-based plastics. The rising environmental concerns have increased the demand for PHA, but low yield in wild-type bacterial strains limits large-scale production. An improvement PHA production can be achieved genetically engineering removing competitive pathways that divert metabolites away from biosynthesis, cloning strong promotors to overexpress genes involved biosynthesis constructing non-native metabolic feed desired monomers were obtained elimination of biosynthetic pathway. chain length degradation specific-gene deletion β-oxidation pathway resulted accumulation having high length. A controlled polymer was novel deleting native genome non-PHA producers. present review attempts showcase genetic modification approaches conducted so far enhance with a special focus on gene various bacteria.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are polyesters synthesized as a carbon and energy reserve material by wide number of bacteria. These polymers characterized their thermoplastic properties similar to those plastics derived from the petrochemical industry, such polyethylene polypropylene. PHAs widely used in medical field have potential be other applications due biocompatibility biodegradability. Among PHAs, P(3HB-
