Abstract Lychee (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) is an exotic fruit from Asia, recently introduced in Europe. With the increase world production of this fruit, many by-products are wasted during industrial processing, including their peels and seeds. Considering utilization as edible material a new functional ingredient, work aimed to assess nutritional phytochemical characterization, well antioxidant activity two lychee peel extracts (alcoholic hydroalcoholic). Also, it was evaluated scavenging capacity against reactive species (O2•-, H2O2, NO•) extracts. The peels, at level, showed high levels carbohydrates total energy (76.8 ± 1.0 g/100 g 331.4 kcal/100 g, respectively) low protein lipid content. Total phenolic flavonoid contents were higher alcoholic extraction (1578 mg GAE/g 55.1 CE/g, respectively). vitro by DPPH FRAP assays also ethanolic extract, verifying positive correlation with extractive yield bioactive compounds. In general, maximum oxygen (O2-•) nitrogen (NO•). hydrogen peroxide observed extract (64 µg/mL) like values obtained controls (quercetin ascorbic acid, 62 µg/mL, 46 These preliminary results suggest undervalued ingredient promising source compounds biological potential for development products always focusing on sustainability.
