Interface modification and electronic alteration of electrocatalysts are indispensable to achieve efficient water splitting for hydrogen production. Herein, a greatly efficient, pH-universal electrocatalyst production is reported by resourcefully introducing the heterointerface heteroatom with two-step electrodeposition processes. The established cobalt-doped Ru/RuP4 nanoheterostructure (CoRu/CoRuP) demonstrates exceptional evolution reaction (HER) activity durability over wide pH range, attaining ultralow overpotentials 31, 30, 24 mV at 10 mA cm–2 in 1.0 M phosphate buffer solution (PBS), KOH, 0.5 H2SO4, respectively. optimized structure CoRu/CoRuP proved detailed structural characterization density-functional theory (DFT) calculation, implying that d-band center shifts downward 0.21 eV compared CoRu catalyst, which contributes intermediates H-desorption HER. In addition, interfacial catalyst expansion electrochemical active surface HER Volmer step. This research highlights importance properties determining catalytic suggests novel approaches designing nanoscale, complex electrocatalysts.
