Bu çalışmada kendini kilolu olarak tanımlayan kadınların, romantik ilişki deneyimlerinin ortaya koyulması amaçlanmıştır. amaçla nitel araştırma yönteminden hareket edilerek 18-65 yaş arası Türkiye’nin farklı bölgelerinde yaşayan ve meslek gruplarından olan 10 kadın ile gerçekleştirilen derinlemesine mülakatlarda kadınların nasıl tanımladıkları, karşı taraftan beklentileri, deneyimleri ilişkide tüketim kültürüne ilişkin pratikleri konulmuştur. Evlilik kurumunun ailenin önem taşıdığı Türkiye’de evlilik için beklentisi şekillenmektedir. beklentisinde taraflar, birbirlerinin beklentilerine uyum sağlarken sosyal çevrenin kendileri üzerinde yarattığı baskıyı da hissedebilmektedirler. Güzellik algısı beden denetimi bu beklentiler arasında yer alabilmektedir. Sosyal inşacı bir perspektiften hareketle yapılan verilerin analizinde içerik analizinden faydalanılmıştır. Böylelikle kendilerini içerisinde hem partner de çevre tarafından sürekli denetlenirken bulduğu görülmüştür. denetlenmelerin kökeni ilk ergenlik çağına olumsuz deneyimlerden oluşabilmektedir. Yakın akrabalar bedenlerine anlamların inşasında aktif rol oynayabilmektedir. Olumsuz deneyimler, bireyin sonrasındaki ilişkilere inşa ettiği anlamları etkileyebilmektedir.
