Abstract In recent decades, Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory (VST) has become particularly influential in the fields of education and educational psychology. Perezhivanie is an important concept VST that stipulates a relative influence environment on person’s psychological development depending their age or stage development. However, perezhivanie been differentially interpreted applied previous literature to suit purposes domain-specific research. The lack comprehensive theoretical understanding can undermine research findings implications for practices. Drawing content analysis key texts , this paper provides much-needed discussion unpacks comprehensively methodological principles guiding its application. revealed conceptually, be defined as: (a) relation between individual environment, (b) abstract experience attitude towards life situation (c) concrete lived event within situation. Tensions and conflicts are common in teachers' everyday professional lives, yet research on how these experiences influence pedagogical decisions teacher agency remains limited. This study employs a broad sociocultural perspective, integrating cultural-historical activity theory (CHAT) Vygotsky's concept of perezhivanie, to examine two Vietnamese English-as-a-Foreign-Language (EFL) educators responded agentively emotionally charged events. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews reflective journals, analyzed using qualitative content analysis. This study examines how authentic assessment could nurture students' epistemic agency: their sense of agency in using, evaluating and producing knowledge. Authentic commonly emphasises 'realism' 'employability skills'. As important as these ideas are, this approach to neglects the key academic value knowledge, a gap we address by adding epistemology into conversation. Our qualitative case explores an archaeology course whose design relied heavily on digital technologies. We empirically analyse after articulating affordances course's design. findings show that digitally-mediated promoted relationship with knowledge three ways. Students understood themselves (i) active learners, (ii) users (iii) agents who contributed public archaeological reframe catalyst for agency, enabling students contribute social good.
