Background: The current study aimed to examine the effects of combat exposure and killing on mental subjective physical health later in life among Korean Vietnam War veterans. Methods: data were collected from 342 male veterans with a mean age 72 years (SD=2.57). Veterans divided based their histories into three groups: no experience (Group 1), only 2), both 3). Analyses variance (ANOVAs) examined group differences post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, anxiety hostility, perceived health. Results: ANOVAs showed that PTSD, symptoms hostility most prevalent Group 3 (both exposure). No significant found between Groups 1 2. Perceived was highest (no experience). There 2 3. Even after controlling for impacts optimism social support homecoming, these results similar. Conclusions: findings indicate should be considered designing interventions deployed active zones.

Human beings are living longer than ever. Among other consequences, this demographic trend increased retirement duration, what makes important to understand factors contribute a better life in retirement. In order explore these and add previous investigations, study aimed perform systematic literature review concerning adjustment For that, total of 11 descriptors were surveyed 7 electronic databases seeking empirical studies addressing retirees, published between 1995 2014, written either English, Portuguese, or Spanish. A 3,255 records identified, resulted final sample 115 articles after applying inclusion exclusion criteria. The predictors classified into 26 categories. Factors with larger evidence on the benefits are: physical health, finances, psychological health personality-related attributes, leisure, voluntary retirement, social integration. It is expected that results allow comparing different predictors, fostering research scarcely studied but promising informing development interventions.

Healthy Aging Project-Brain (HAP-B) is a novel clinical psychoeducation offering developed to encourage engagement in activities associated with successful aging. HAP-B targets sleep, socialization, physical, and cognitive activity through myth-busting, developing SMART goals, tracking behavioral change. Study aims: (1) assess feasibility/acceptability Veteran population; (2) analyze pre- post-intervention ratings examine health well-being; (3) explore associations between factors life satisfaction. The 50 participants (mean age = 70.6 years) were predominantly male-identity (88%) White (76%). Findings, based on independent t tests, revealed improvements satisfaction, emotional well-being, energy levels post-intervention. Linear regression results found higher satisfaction was lower depressive symptoms, self-efficacy. This easily implementable education intervention can result more positive self-appraisal encouraging downstream effects. Healthcare providers are well-positioned utilize classes such as promote patient-centric approaches brain health.

Satisfaction with life (SWL) is an important measure of outcome in rehabilitation. Previous research suggests that those a history traumatic brain injury (TBI), even mild TBI, report lower levels satisfaction when compared the noninjured population. Although it possible TBI has direct effect on SWL, various medical and psychosocial factors commonly affecting recovering from likely contribute to SWL.The present study aimed identify related SWL 95 veterans Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Iraqi (OIF), New Dawn (OND) TBI.Regression analyses indicated headache impact, pain interference, sleep quality, posttraumatic stress symptom severity, social support were all significantly SWL. However, secondary conducted including severity as covariate before entry other predictors, only quality remained associated SWL.These results indicate importance properly identifying treating symptoms mTBI, appear be strongly TBI. The resource-based dynamic perspective has been applied in this study to explore retirees' satisfaction, depression, and actual loss of resources. A three-wave design with Spanish workers who were transition retirement (N = 286) was used the aim investigating correlations between pre-retirement variables post-retirement well-being. Participants working at Time 1 2 but 3, they had retired past year. Individual attributes (age), access resources (life satisfaction depression), situational characteristics (job stress, job tenure, quality), psychological disposition (general self-efficacy positive expectations) first wave, correlated threat second wave. Moreover, these predictors explained how people adjust third assessed both directly (actual resources) indirectly (satisfaction via their effects on variables. results revealed that a relationship after retirement, also depression retirement. Hence, suggested several avenues for intervention targeting expectations and, turn, increasing well-being, which are discussed.

With the aging of global population, neurodegenerative diseases are emerging as a major public health issue. The adoption less sedentary lifestyle has been shown to have beneficial effect on cognitive decline, but molecular mechanisms responsible clear. Here we provide detailed analysis complex molecular, cellular, and systemic underlying age-related decline how choices influence these processes. A review evidence from animal models, human studies, postmortem analyses emphasizes importance integrating physical exercise with cognitive, multisensory, motor stimulation part multifaceted approach mitigating decline. We highlight potential non-pharmacological interventions address key hallmarks, such genomic instability, telomere attrition, neuroinflammation, underscore need for comprehensive personalized strategies promote resilience healthy aging.

Combat exposure can have long-term negative effects in later life; although aspects of service may be appraised positively, the positive combat on well-being life is largely unknown. The sample included 1,006 male veterans from VA Normative Aging Study, surveyed by mail 1986, 1990, and 1991 (Mage = 65.5 years, SD 7.3). They reported their exposure, desirable appraisals military service, unit cohesion, dispositional optimism, self-rated health, psychological (PWB), as well age, rank, education. Perceived (PPA) was postulated to mediate PWB. Structural equation modeling used examine both mediating moderating effects.Age, optimism had independent PPA, but did not moderate effect PPA. only indirect PWB through controlling for direct optimism. Education no outcomes optimism.Combat contributes life, indirectly appraisals, this Thus, these results support idea that should encouraged focus which serve resilience resources facilitate optimal aging. This study described the association of subjective well-being with combat exposure and social relationships among middle-aged older Veteran men in USA. The stress-buffering hypothesis, which predicts may moderate between well-being, was also examined.Data from 2008 Health Retirement Study (N = 2961) were used to estimate logistic regression models, focusing on three measures well-being: depression, life satisfaction, self-reported health. In fully adjusted there no statistically significant indicators well-being. However, compared Veterans who had lower scores relationship index, higher less likely be depressed report poor or fair health. index reported levels satisfaction than those scores. There evidence for a buffering effect. The results this demonstrated that did not have long-term Longitudinal research designs more comprehensive help researchers better understand some underlying complexity relationship. Complementary samples women Veterans, as well Hispanic, non-Black, non-White is needed.

The regression results showed that conflict reduced likelihood being happy, but condition health were positively correlated happiness. Religiosity, which was measured using frequency prayer, had no effect respondents’ demographic attributes like gender, age, marital status also
