Despite
the
significant
role
of
gut
microbiota
in
infant
health
and
development,
little
is
known
about
ecological
processes
determining
microbial
community
assembly.
According
to
ecology
theory,
timing
order
arrival
species

ecosystem

Bifidobacterium
are
recognized
as
highly
abundant
early

Microbiota-directed
complementary
food
(MDCF)
formulations
have
been
designed
to
repair
the
gut
communities
of
malnourished
children.
A
randomized
controlled
trial
demonstrated
that
one
formulation,
MDCF-2,
improved
weight
gain
in
Bangladeshi
children
compared

more
calorically
dense
standard
nutritional
intervention.
