As a very common malignancy of the digestive system, incidence and mortality rates gastric cancer (GC) are increasing year by year. The critical role ferroptosis in development has been well-documented. polyphenol compound curcumin shows prominent anti-tumor effects multiple types, including GC. However, whether participates GC tumorigenesis regulating remains unknown. Gastric cells AGS HGC-27 were treated with (0, 10, 20 μM). Cell viability death evaluated through CCK-8 LDH release assays. LC3B expression was estimated immunofluorescence staining. Intracellular ferrous iron (Fe2+), GSH, MDA, lipid ROS levels assessed corresponding assay kits. cellular autophagy markers (ATG5, ATG7, Beclin 1, LC3B), (ACSL4, SLC7A11, GPX4), phosphorylated (p)-PI3K, p-AKT, p-mTOR determined western blotting. Abstract Background Despite the higher sensitivity of melanoma towards ferroptosis and photodynamic therapy (PDT), lack efficient inducers poor solubility photosensitizers restrict their synergistic strategies. With unique advantages, carbon dots (CDs) are expected to serve as innovative building blocks for combination cancers. Results Herein, an ferroptosis/PDT integrated nanoplatform is constructed based on chlorin e6-modified Fe ions-doped (Fe-CDs@Ce6). As a novel type iron-carbon hybrid nanoparticles, as-prepared Fe-CDs can selectively activate ferroptosis, prevent angiogenesis inhibit migration mouse skin cells (B16), but have no toxicity normal cells. The nano-conjugated structures facilitate not only aqueous dispersibility Ce6, also self-accumulation ability Fe-CDs@Ce6 within area without requiring extra targets. Moreover, therapeutic effects synergistically enhanced due increased GSH depletion by PDT elevated singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) production efficiency Fe-CDs. When combined with laser irradiation, tumor growth be significantly suppressed through cyclic administration. In this review, an literature search performed. Databases (Scopus, Web Science, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Springer) were searched time span 2017 to November 2023, using keyword “ferroptosis” alone combination “flavonoid”, “phenolic acid”, “stilbene”, “coumarin”, “anthraquinone”, “chalcone”; after selection studies, we had 311 papers 143 phenolic compounds. total, 53 compounds showed ability induce ferroptosis, 110 able inhibit out those compounds, 20 both abilities depending model system.
