Traditional herbal medicines based on natural products play a pivotal role in preventing and managing atherosclerotic diseases, which are among the leading causes of death globally. Monoterpenes large class naturally occurring compounds commonly found many aromatic medicinal plants. Emerging evidence has shown that monoterpenes have biological properties, including cardioprotective effects. Remarkably, an increasing number studies demonstrated therapeutic potential to protect against pathogenesis atherosclerosis. These findings shed light developing novel effective antiatherogenic drugs from these compounds. Herein, we provide overview monoterpenes’ effects atherogenesis underlying mechanisms. pleiotropic multitargeted pharmacological properties by interacting with various cell types intracellular molecular pathways involved atherogenesis. confer remarkable advantages atherosclerosis, been recognized as multifaceted vascular disease. We also discuss limitations clinical application agents propose perspectives give new insights into future preclinical research practice regarding monoterpenes.

The rising burden of antimicrobial resistance and increasing infectious disease outbreaks, including the recent COVID-19 pandemic, has led to a growing demand for development natural products as valuable source leading medicinal compounds. There is wide variety active constituents found in plants, making them an excellent agents with therapeutic potential alternatives or potentiators antibiotics. structural diversity phytochemicals enables act through mechanisms, targeting multiple biochemical pathways, contrast traditional antimicrobials. Moreover, bioactivity herbal extracts can be explained by various metabolites working synergism, where hundreds thousands make up extract. Although vast amount literature available regarding use these against bacterial viral infections, critical assessments their quality are lacking. This review aims explore efficacy effects clinically relevant gastrointestinal infections pathogenic Escherichia coli, toxigenic Clostridioides difficile, Campylobacter Salmonella species. will discuss research gaps propose future approaches translational plant-derived drug discovery purposes treatment prevention diseases.

Abstract: The growing global apprehension towards multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacteria necessitates the development of innovative strategies to combat these infections. Berberine (BER), an isoquinoline quaternary alkaloid derived from various medicinal plants, has surfaced as a promising antibiotic adjuvant due its ability enhance effectiveness conventional antibiotics against drug-resistant bacterial strains. Here, we overview augmenting properties and mechanisms BER adjunctive MDR bacteria. been observed exhibit synergistic effects when co-administered with range antibiotics, including β-lactams, quinolones, aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, macrolides, lincosamides fusidic acid. led increase in antimicrobial for corresponding bacteria, decrease minimal inhibitory concentrations, even reversal resistance susceptibility sometimes. potential responsible included inhibition efflux, disruption biofilm formation, modulation host immune responses, restoration gut microbiota homeostasis. In brief, demonstrated significant is candidate combination therapy. Further research necessary fully elucidate mechanism action address challenges associated clinical application. This review focuses on the role of human red blood cells (RBCs) as drug carriers. First, a general introduction about RBC physiology is provided, followed by presentation several cases in which RBCs act natural carriers drugs. due to presence binding sites within same and regulated diffusion selected compounds through membrane influx efflux transporters. The balance between influx/efflux affinity for these will finally affect partitioning. Thereafter, brief mention pharmacokinetic profile drugs with such partitioning given. Finally, some examples features can be further exploited engineer encapsulation drugs, metabolites, or target proteins are reported. For instance, metabolic pathways powered increasing key metabolites (i.e., 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate) that oxygen release potentially useful transfusion medicine. Abstract Background Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is a globally critical condition with no available efficient treatments. Methods Herein, we generated chitosan (CS) nanoparticles cross-linked two different agents, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate (HPMCP; termed as CS/HPMCP) and tripolyphosphate (TPP; CS/TPP), loaded them berberine (BBr; referred to CS/HPMCP/BBr CS/TPP/BBr, respectively). Alongside the encapsulation efficiency (EE) loading capacity (LC), releasing activity of was also measured in stimulated gastric fluid (SGF) intestinal (SIF) conditions. The effects prepared on viability mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were evaluated. Ultimately, protective investigated ALD mouse models. Results SEM images demonstrated that CS/HPMCP CS/TPP had an average size 235.5 ± 42 172 21 nm, respectively. LC EE for calculated 79.78% 75.79%, respectively; while CS/TPP/BBr 84.26% 80.05%, pH determining factor BBr from higher cargo-releasing rate observed less acidic environment. Both BBr-loaded increased MSCs comparison their BBr-free counterparts. In vivo results protected enzymatic functionality against ethanol-induced damage. They prevented histopathological Conclusions Crosslinking CS HPMCP can mediate controlled drug release intestine improving bioavailability BBr.

Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is characterized by insulin resistance and impaired glucose metabolism, leading to hyperglycemia increased risk of complications like renal fibrosis. Purpose This study’s purpose examine how berberine hydrochloride (BBR) metformin (Met) work together treat T2DM, as well these medications affect tissue type metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), glucose, lipid metabolism levels in the blood transforming growth factor β1. Methods Using a random number table approach, overall, 100 individuals with T2DM between October 2020 2022 were chosen classified into two groups: An experimental group an untreated group, each 50 patients. The received Met therapy, whereas BBR based on group. groups compared regarding efficacy, cholesterol function fibrosis indices, frequency adverse responses. Results group’s effective rate was 96.00% higher than that (82.00%). Following treatment, had lower glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA lc ), index (HOMA-IR), fasting (FBG), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), (TC) while greater high-density (HDL-C). course observation cystatin (Cys-C), urinary β2 microglobulin (β2-MG), urine albumin excretion (UAER), microalbumin (ALB) all lesser factor-β (TGF-β) levels, matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), TIMP-1 those Conclusion When are taken together, patients can effectively control their TGF-β1, MMP-9, TIMP-1. They also postpone interstitial eventually improve kidney function, high degree safety significant effects.
